  • Update - Another Month Down and 2 POUNDS TO GO!!!!

    Hello, all.

I've been updating you all on my progress, and now here's another update 5 months into the diet. Started on February 7th at 264 (I'm 6'3"), and have been steadily dropping (a few plateaus here and there). I was at 231 on May 4, down to 218 on June 1. As of yesterday I was at 206!!!!!

Initially when I started I wanted to get down to 224/225. Then I re-evaluated and decided to get down to 217. Then, on the inspiration of my father-in-law, I decided to go down an even 60lbs, to 204.

So this means, 5 months into it, that I now only have TWO POUNDS TO GO!!!!

    I simply cannot believe it.

Incidentally, I got a chance to look through my medical records recently, because I wanted to chart my weight gain. I'm 33, and was really skinny growing up (lanky is probably the best way to describe it, because of my height). I was about 180 when I graduated from high school, and probably gained about 5lbs a year at that point. So I figure I was about 200 when I graduated, and then continued gaining about 5lbs a year after that.

    I weighed 219 in 1997. I weighed 231 in 1999. And then by early 2004 I weighed 264. So that's about 6lbs a year since 1997.

So here I am now, weighing about what I weighed in 1994/1995, when I was 23/24 years old.

    I am simply flabbergasted.

Thanks for all of your kind words of support.

    Sincerely,

    Andrew Langer

    Andrew:

GREAT job. You sound so excited, and I can't blame you a bit!!

I have a few questions if you don't mind. My DH has now lost 50 lbs and is getting within 20 lbs of his goal weight. I would like to know at what point (if at all) you went to OWL, and what your carbs per day are right now, since you're still obviously losing pretty quickly.

Wow - I can't wait until I'm 6 lbs away from goal!! It must just be astonishing to you how quickly (and easily?) it came off.

    Congrats!!

I actually haven't gone to OWL, but have pretty much just kept my carb intake down to between 30 and 40 net carbs per day, sometimes a lot less.

I do allow myself a treat now and then, and make up for it the next day. I also stick to the water regimen, which really does seem to help.

It really is astonishing, and it's taught me a great deal about myself, and what I can and cannot do when I put my mind to it. I'm losing, on average, 3lbs per week.

But it wasn't easy, especially in my jobs, which takes me out to eat quite a bit, and leads to a rather sedentary lifestyle (which is what got me in this fix in the first place). But I do enjoy a challenge, and once the weight started to come off, the rewards were self-evident.

Thank you for your kind words. Keep up the great work, and extend my sentiments of support and encouragement to your DH as well.

      - Andrew
