  • Normal blood sugar levels thx to Atkins

... I though I also post this here and not only in the "Diabetes & Atkins Low Carb Living" section:

Hello fellow Atkineers, Pre-Diabetes and Diabetes Type II folks,

I've been diagnosed with (Pre-) Diabetes Typ II in 2001. With the help of my physician and dietitian I was quickly able to lower my blood levels again - but not for long and surely not for good. My weight slowly but steadily increased and my blood sugar levels kept worsening - however never to a point where my physician wanted to describe me medicine. I consulted with various dietitians, but always struggled with their attitude towards food and eating habits. In June 2007 I reached a point, where I was absolutely unhappy with myself, my body, my poor health and sad soul.

I heard of Low Carb diets and googled if they were are also a solution to beat my pre-diabetes. I read about Atkins and was instantly thrilled about what I've read. I ordered the "Atkins Diabetes Revolution" and shortly after also "The Atkins New Diet Revolution" to fully understand the diet in detail. End of June 2007 I then began with Atkins for the first time and achieved amazing results in just 5 weeks. Unfortunately I did fell off and struggled for months to get back on plan, also due to health problems, as I had a nasty gastritis bothering me on and off. In February 2008 I re-committed myself again to this WOE and set out a plan how to get back on track. I re-read both books and choose a start date wisely. March 3, 2008 I re-started and this time successfully.

I've been 9 weeks on this WOE and today I had my 3-Month Check-Up. I'm very happy to report, that my HBA1c is 5.3 - that is a normal, healthy blood sugar level! I'm so excited!

My fasting levels are at 6.0 - which I'm okay with (normal is up to 5.6) and thanks to the regular exercise my blood pressure is at 125 / 75 - (according to my doc, that is great!)

My goal for the next 3 months is, to lower my fasting levels to 5.0 - 5.5 and at least maintain my HBA1c reading (if not possibly lower it) and of course continously reduce my weight.

I'd like to take this opportunity to thank everyone in this forum - you are all such a great source of support, motivation and inspiration. And I would like to motivate and reasure new diabetic Atkineers, that this WOE really does work for Diabetes Type II and obese patients.

    Thank you & warm greetings,
    Salima

That's Awesome Salima. I hope it's working for me, too. I was told I was pre-diabetic by my doctor in 2005. That was my "in between Atkins" time and I KNEW I should get back to it. Now that I've FINALLY been well behaved for 6 months, I should get up the gumption to go back and get some numbers! I have an aversion to doctors, hospitals and blood!

Hey Chick... yes it is awesome indeed. I have a couple of girl friends who actually suffer from diabetes and they know that thanks to Atkins I have incredibly improved my blood results - however, unfortunately they just can't get friendly with a low-carb diet. I used to have an aversion from doctors offices etc. too, but now, that my levels are getting better and better and the weight is shedding off slowly - I'm always excited to see how I have improved and how my doctor is actually impressed with my results and achievements.

            Fantastic Salima!
I had Type 2 Diabetes before I started Atkins. After 48 days on the Atkins woe it disappeared and never returned. After nearly four years of being Diabetes free my doctor informed me that i'm no longer a risk of getting Diabetes again thanks to Atkins
Something for you to look forward to aswell.
I'm so happy for you !

Wow Sherri... I can't wait that my doctor tells me the same. I still have a long way to go and a lot of weight to loose - but I am determined. I can do this!
