According to the good Doctor "Excessive caffeine may cause unstable blood sugar and should be avoided by those who suspect they are caffeine dependent. Everyone should try to avoid caffeine."
Thats from the Man himself. Decaf coffee is allowed during induction. If you feel that you need that morning cup o joe, purchase some good brand decaf coffee, i.e. Millstone, Starbucks, etc and try it. You'll like it.

And the truth is that without giving it up for a real period of time (that doesn't mean a week or two weeks!), you'll never know whether it affects you or not!

Mirna's correct coffee IS a diuretic. Some low carb experts suggest that if you choose to drink a caffeinated beverage then you should drink something like 2 ounces of water for every 1 ounce of caffeinated beverage you drink to make up for that water loss. So if you drink 8 ounces of regular coffee, you'll need to drink 16 ounces of water to make up for any water loss due to the caffeine in that coffee.
Remember a ketogenic diet is a strong diuretic as well, so you'll be losing water from the diet AND from the caffeine.
Just out of curiosity, what kind of "cravings" did you have after the first cup?
I was drinking about 6-7 cups of Nescafe cold coffees (the worst coffee for your health)!! About a week now I drink Sturbacks decaf coffee and I noticed dramatical changes! You should try something like that.... it's NOT dificult at all. Beleive me!
As others mentioned, coffee can wreak havoc with your blood sugar. I was a caffeine addict before induction. I drank the equivalent of two Starbucks ventis a day. I actually LOVE the taste of strong coffee. I have been drinking 2-4 ozs. of iced decaf (Starbucks, Lavazza) so I can still get my taste but not suffer the blood sugar spikes.
