  • for a smaller set person, help please ~!

    Hi all,

I just finished reading the book and found this forum last night. I'm starting induction today, but my question is if this WOL really works (weight-loss-wise) for smaller set people who don't have a ton of weight to lose??

I'm 5'4", and 135 lbs. While this is in the "normal" weight range, I have very small bone structure and have been 120 or less for most of my life, so being 135 to me feels like 1000000lbs. extra lugging around.

Does anyone know if weightloss will still occur on a smaller-set person? Does it just happen more slowly? I'd really appreciate it if someone who did not have a lot to lose could advise me on this, how much is average for a person of my size to lose during induction?

Thanks so much, everyone here seems so nice, I'm glad to join the boards!

Weight loss will occur, but it will be at a much slower rate for a 135lb person than it would for a 300 lb + person.

It is average for someone to lose approx 10% of the weight you need to lose in the induction period. (But i stress that is on average) and different peoples mileage will vary.

    I hope this helps?

I have the last five pounds left to lose, and I can definatly confirm what he just said- it takes a while. It's a fun diet that's easy to maintain, but you need to be patient if you only have a little to lose.

Hi and welcome. One thing you will notice with this woe is how great you feel even if you don't lose the big numbers like us heavy weights. One can expect to lose between five and ten percent of your goal weight loss during induction. Exercise is key along with drinking water and taking your supplements.

Also remember that when you are within 10 pounds of your goal you need to be progressing up the rungs of OWL so that when you hit goal you have all the tools in place to maintain this as a way of eating for life. Induction is a part of the diet, but it's not the whole diet.

I view this as more of a numbers game.

With 15lbs to lose, in a clean induction you could reasonably expect to lose .75 to 1.5lbs. Doesn't sound great, does it?

With 150lbs to lose, in a clean induction a reasonable expectation of loss would be 7.5lbs to 15lbs. Sounds a lot better doesn't it?

But BOTH people lost the weight at the same rate.

Bottom line, most everyone benefits with a controlled carbohydrate approach - even those of us with not much to lose.

Echoing what the others said -- even if you don't lose a lot, it's a lot healthier way of eating. When I started, I was still within the normal weight range. In seven weeks I've lost only 8 pounds, but body fat has dropped from 32% to 28.5%. So, whatever happens during induction and beyond, you'll feel better and likely tone up.

Re: for a smaller set person, help please ~!

I am the perfect example of slow weight loss. I had a baby in October, and weighed 176lbs the day I had her. The next day, I weighed 153<talk about losing alot of water weight LMAO!>. I started this WOL January 3rd. I was at a stall, and fluctuated between 140-142 for a few weeks so I decided to go ahead and begin Atkins with my husband. Depending on wether I count myself as weighing 142 or 140, I have lost 9lbs or 7lbs so far. My husband on the other hand, has lost 27lbs!! Can you imagine if I had lost the same weight as him!? I would be at goal already! I don't think it would be healthy for me to lose THAT much weight in such a short time. In any event, if you stick with it, you WILL lose! Even though I have only a third of the weight to lose than my husband, we should both reach goal around the same time. His goal is actually 230, but I put 200 because it was a medial range for his height and age. So, there ya have it! It might take some time, but it WILL come off! I think I will post some pictures of me soon. I took a before picture in a pair of pants I couldnt zip up or button. Now I wear them with no problem. I tell ya, 7-9lbs makes a big difference on someone with our smaller frame! GL and you can do it!!
                          I did it!!
