  • Cindilou's question about Diet soda reposted

While trying to split Cindilou's question from another thread to make it more visible and likely to get answered I seem to have lost it
So I am reposting it here to get some input.

Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

Hmmmm ... I'm only a newbie myself. But, from what I'm reading in the book and from other threads I've read, I'm seeing that diet soda is not for induction. There is a large amount of caffeine in most diet sodas that I'm seeing. And, caffeine is not allowed in that amount during induction. But ... an expert will tell ya. Water is really allowed. lol ... Good luck with your induction. You can do it - and even withOUT diet soda! And, I know ... it's hard but ... if I can do it - ANYONE can do it.
THIS TIME and for the LAST TIME, I will do this!!

Diet soda is not encouraged during induction. Induction is a time to detox the system and you needs lots of water to do that. Definately stay away from diet soda as much as possible. It has no nutritional value, and it has a diuretic effect. Soda is no substitute for water.
If you do drink a diet soda, make sure you drink two full glasses of water at the same time.

As far as preparation is concerned you just learn to keep all of the Atkins friendly food staples ready and available. For me that is eggs, cream cheese, any other kind of cheese, and a wide variety of meat and fish, heavy whipping cream and a wide variety of vegetables.

I always have some jicama, radishes, turnips, string cheese, olives, pepperoni or sausage or little smokies ready for snacking. If I get a sweet craving I pop a mock danish in the microwave - takes 2 minutes.
      No excuses.

Breakfast, Lunch or Dinner is ready in 10 minutes using the George Forman grill to cook a nice burger, chop or steak with some veggies. There is no reason why your husband and boys can't eat the same things you are.

I couldn't agree with you more. I have 7 in my family and I am not cooking two seperate meals a day plus packing my lunch. I work full time and so does my DBF. Kids got to 4 different schools and are in sports/band/parades...etc. Want to talk about busy???

Here is what I do. I make a quiche from these recipes (same site as above, but these are all for induction)

        http://users3.ev1.net/~fontlady/induction_menus/induction_menus.html

and put them into tupperwares in the freezer. These are for breakfast during the work week. Whatever I make for dinner, I also make for myself. Like last night they had taco's, I had taco salad. Yesterday they had boiled ham dinner (ham, cabbage, potatoes, carrots), I had ham and cabbage. And becuase there is 7 of us...I cook ALOT and always make sure there is enough for me to take to work for lunch. I have stopped cooking pasta compeletly, because frankly after reading DANDR, it wouldn't hurt them to not have it. And they don't seem to mind most nights dinner of meat, salad and veggie...and neither do I. With spring on its way this is not hard, as they loved grilled food and so do I, so most chicken, fish, beef and pork will be grilled in some way.

In the morning I grab one quiche, yesterdays leftovers and my chilled gallon of water. Off I go. Takes me fifteen seconds to pack my lunch. I don't have cravings for snacks anymore, but in the beginning I was taking cheese and sliced turkey (from one I cooked--stay away from lunchmeat) as snacks or boiled eggs. Want a treat? Make some deviled eggs...they are not just for parties you know!

Life will throw curves from time to time, but if you are ready and prepared there is no reason you should fail.

Good luck and if you need some more help, don't hesitate to ask!
