  • My story..Anyone who has around 30 lbs to lose?

Hello everybody. I have been reading the forums and I must say it is

couraging. I really admire you all who have stuck to the diet and lost those

    unwanted fat and weight.

I began Atkins Induction 4 days ago. I am desperate to lose 30 lbs. I know

this may sound little for some of you and I do not want to sound vain or

anything. According to my BMI I am still in a healthy stage.well the

morrorsand my clothes think otherwise. Not to mention the looks I get from

my family and friends who've known my slim years.

I have always been in shape, not in the runway model or a movie star shape

but in a slim hourglass shape with a flat tummy. A year ago I lost somebody

that was "the love of my life" and since then I let myself go. I overate and

overdrank. I was 125-127 lbs at 5 ft 7 and went to 156-157 lbs, which is

where I am today. Believe me, growing 3-4 sizes with a full moon face (I now

run out of make up quickly ) and fat legs and chubby arms is no fun when

you are the former fashionista (I do work in fashion industry as a

stylist, which makes it way more gross)

It is like a fat dietician telling her patients that she'll help them lose weight.

So..I know that "because I am considered to be at a normal weight as far as

my BMI goes" I will not shed these lbs as fast as some of you who have more

to lose. Therefore, I would like to meet other members who were like me when

they started or right now at a point where they are close to their gola

    weights.

I thought maybe we can write our progresses, experiences and

    challenges under this thread.

    What do you say? Anybody?

    That would be me.

I am a recovering/recovered anorexic. ( Never really recovered but in a remission I guess you could say)

I was down to 92lbs at 5'5. Wore a size 12 little girls pants. Yuck! Finally got help. Not willingly but got help non the less and they put me on a treatment program. When I started induction last week I was 145lbs. They had me gain more weight than I actually needed to give me a cushion so that if I slipped I wouldn't drop too low to fast. Anyways I have now been given the ok to lose the weight back down to 130lbs. I say 120-125 they say 130 we will see lol. Anyways I don't have awhole lot to lose but still have enough. I am getting married in April and I have this pretty white dress just waiting for me and I want to look fab in it.

After 9 days doing induction I am down to 137 so I really don't have far to go at all. But feel because this WOE makes you eat to lose weight it wont cause me to slip in my old ways like a low cal diet would. If that makes sense.

    Anyways good luck!

      Me too

Although I've struggled with my weight on and off, I need to learn how to keep it off. I don't have much to lose to reach my realistic goal, how I call it, my real goal would be 120lbs

The thing is learning how to eat properly and keeping the weight off forever

Today is My 11th day on induction and I'm going to weight myself on Tuesday. I don't know if I should do a longer induction. What are you girls doing?

Anyways, good luck to all of us

        Hello ladies,

        First of..Narina..congrats on your recovery

I began induction on Tuesday so today was only my 4th day. I am not sure if I will continue with the induction after 2 weeks because I am having a hard time with eating the same kind of foods. But if I see great results then I think I will continue

Do you ladies stick to 65%, 30%, 5% rule? If you do please tell me how

Re: My story..Anyone who has around 30 lbs to lose?

When I started, I was overweight, but few people agreed with me. For my bone structure, however, I was too heavy, not to mention a COUCH POTATO .. never exercised, NEVER.

When I started Atkins, I wanted to lose 15 pounds .. yeah, I know .. why bother? Well because at my structure, 15 pounds made a huge difference.

So I started this plan January 19, 2002 skeptical that it would work for me.
          That was then.

Now, I have lost 40+ pounds easily and have been maintaining that loss for nearly 5 years. How? By following Atkins 2002 the way it was written, including the "exercise is non-negotiable" chapter ...

Its all about eating healthy, wholesome foods and keeping your body in shape with regular, rigorous exercise.

Yes, it really is simple. The total elimination of all processed foods, sugar and starch.

          YOU CAN DO IT!

Re: My story..Anyone who has around 30 lbs to lose?

            Hi,

I'm very much in your boat right now. I'm on day nine of induction. I'm 5'8 152lbs, again within a normal weight for my height, but I want to get back down to 130lbs. I just let myself go and didn't really bother thinking i'd be ok. Boy did it creep on without me noticing!! I've a tiny waist and am quite light up top but I've all my cushioning in the middle and lower area of my body so ive gotten really odd shaped! Like you I just want to get down to a healthy size that "I' feel comfortable with.

As for your question, i posted a question on day 7 regarding this matter. I stepped on the scales because i felt my jeans looser and i felt pretty confident id lost a few pounds, but when i got up there i was the same weight!!! I was so annoyed and confused. So I asked an expert (as i believe the people on this site are!!! check their profiles!!) The response was that everyone loses weight at a different rate. Your body mass MAY effect how much you lose especially during induction, but it won't determine HOW MUCH you lose. that part is down to you, your body and how much you exercise. Today is day 9 and i couldn't resist takin another step on the dreaded scales and its reading 3lbs down, which is'nt as much as i wanted but thats a difference of 3'bs in 2 days!!! so maybe my body is catching up and maybe i'l have lost the 7lbs i was hoping i would during induction. So maybe it does take a little longer ofor our bodies to cathch up. This is just my experience. I just wanted to post this cause i don't want someone giving up on day 7 when they get the same reading as i did. 3lbs is 3lbs and im sooo confident that will increase.

Im really enjoying the diet this time and feel that it is goingto work for me. I hope you stick with it. Im smiling today cause im 3lbs lighter, maybe 4lbs by tmw. this diet works. Im letting my body deal with the when and whats!

            good luck everyone

Well, ladies, this is my 6th day and I miss eating cookies and chocolate.

This morning I ate sausage omlette. The last two days I have had dry mouth and I have been drinking wter like crazy. I must have drank 200 OZ of water yesterday,no kidding.

I wonder if I am dehydrating because of all the eggs and salt I eat.

Colleen, I understand the "odd shape" I wish the doctors would change this BMI thing and increase it so we do not hallucinate we are still "normal" and let ourselves go. Am I wrong?

I am tempted to get on the scale again. But if it shows no weight loss yet again I am afraid I will be too discourged.

Re: My story..Anyone who has around 30 lbs to lose?

Ladies - an 'average' loss during 14 days initial induction would be 5%-10% of the total amount you hope to lose, so a one pound loss for someone with 20 pounds to lose is 'normal' and for someone with less than 10 pounds maybe half a pound would be 'normal'.

So dont get discouraged if you dont see 3 or 4 pounds lost, just continue with the plan and move to OWL - the MAIN weightloss stage of Atkins so you can work through the rungs/levels of OWL food groups before moving into the 3rd stage of Atkins (premaintenance)!

Dr Atkins wanted us to lose our last 5-10 pounds VERY slowly - 'almost imperceptively' - see Chapter 16 of DANDR to learn why this is important.

One of our members (Betty a former admin) lost absolutely nothing on her 14 days induction but by following the 4 stages of Atkins got to her goal and is still maintaining her goal weight seveeral years later!!
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

Re: My story..Anyone who has around 30 lbs to lose?

Hi ya'll! I am 5 ft and want to get to 130. That sounds like a lot for a small frame...but I'm just small in heighth. I feel my very best at 130...always have since turning 40...I am now 56. Most of you are younguns. I only have about 22 lbs left to get there. I know one thing...the less you have to lose, the slower it seems to come off and of course the older you are the same dilemma. But, I do know one thing, excercise really helps me not lose at a turtles pace. And, I don't mean running marathons or anything. But I excercise 40-60 mins 3 x week and try to walk as often as possible. Although I live in Colorado and we have been inundated with snow for a month now...so walking outdoors is really limited (not snow shoveling, but walking).

I have also learned something else...I have to vary my diet and be creative so i don't get bored. This BB has been great to help me be more creative in my cooking. I have also gotten so many ideas about things like flax meal...it can make the best muffins and i have even made a "bread" out of it that I can toast. I want to make this WOE a WOL. So, I have decided to forgo the date goals and have just set for myself the goal to eat healthy and feel healthy. It seems to be working. i did fall off a little (not much but a little) at Christmas and usually when that happens, I just get mad at my self and give up and gain back all that i have lost. Not this time...I had plenty of people here cheering me on not to give up. I didn't, I got back on and today the scales were down 2.

So, I guess for me, I need to look at this as a permanent change and forgive myself when I stray a bit, but not give up and get right back on. I figure, at the rate I'm going, it may take me a year to lose the 20 lbs I want to lose...but the most important part is that I am already down the 13 and JUST have 20 to go!!!! If I never lose another pound...I feel so much better now than I did 13 pounds ago. For that i am really grateful.

You gotta admire these people who have lost a lot of weight...it's hard enough to lose what we have to lose...but they are really inspiring. Good luck everyone.

Today is my 7th day. No weight loss, but I felt my pants a little bit looser, not much but it is something. I would have expected to lose more but I have to be patient.

Do you ladies fee the side effects of ketosis?

I keep hearing about bad breath but I do not have such thing.

I want to join in here. When I started out I needed to loose 11.5 kg. Not a lot, just 11.5 too much

I have been low carbing before - way back in the last millenium. I gained the weight after stopping smoking and trying to keep off weight by eating low fat.

So fat my scale says I have lost some but for whatever reason I am sceptical. Contrary to many I enjoy the food. After years of lowfat, avocado and mayonaise is definitely attractive. I am also pleased to have learned about flax seed.

Looking forward to loosing with you!

Hi! I am 5 ft. and 145 1bs. I am also trying to lose 20-25 1bs. This is my 2nd day of induction. I know where ur coming from. When I was 21, I weighed 118. Now I'm 30 and weight 145??!! I also have a 3 year old. After 3 years, you would think that the weight would be gone, but life happens and everything slips. I will be happy to keep up with ya. We need all of the encouragement that we can get. Hang in there! You can do it. Sounds like you are doing a great job so far sticking to it. Let me know how you are progressing! Good luck!!
