Re: My story..Anyone who has around 30 lbs to lose?

    hi euroasia,

I too hadn't lost anything by day 7 so just hold out there, we mighht not lose 10lbs llike some people but every pound helps, and i too felt my trousers looser so thats a great sign. Im on day 14 today and don't have scales in my flat, so i have to wait till i go to the gym tonight. Il post you my weight loss (if any!!!), looks like we are pretty much in the same boat, so keep in touch on your progress. keep going.

I don't think i experienced bad breath during the 14 days, i was constantly checking to make sure, i did have an unbelievable dry mouth but the water helped that. Someone in a post said dry mouth during induction can be a symptom of ketosis but im not sure how true this is.

Don't let the scale get you down...trust those looser fitting clothes. I have taken to weighing only once a week and really think I may go to once a month. Weighing is very unpredictable I have found. I haven't had any side effect to ketosis as long as I drink plenty of water. During the first month I did feel kind of light headed upon waking in the morning, but that has gone away. The big difference for me after about seven days was the decrease in preoccupation with food. Now of course I think about it, but it is not that ravenous hunger that i seemed to feel all the time. I am actually having to remember to eat sometimes!

        Colleenmag, I am reporting..Day 9

NO WEIGHT LOSS ..ARGGHHH. The scale does not budge and there is more. I wore the same pants that I initially thought were looser. NO, they are too tight on me now.

more over I asked friends if I look any thinner. They were more than abrupt to say NO. Great..this is depressing I don't know what's going on

One question: Does sticking to less than 20 gr of carbs keep us in ketosis?
I heard from someone Medifast diet (in the US) allows 30-35 gr of carbs and they are still in ketosis.

          hi euroasia,

Back from the gym, weighed myself, only 3lbs in total off! im so surprised because i really feel like i have lost weight around my hips. Its TOM so im hoping thats having some effect on the scales, wel see next week if thats the case. its disheartening but i totally agree with emom about trusting our clothes rather than the scales. Maybe you are retaining water? that happens me a lot. That could be the reason why i haven't lost as much as i hoped. Iv defo been sticking to the diet, firstly because im in korea and i cant read the labels on anything so im sticking to fresh cuts of meat and eggs! i havent even bought any sweeteneers cause im not sure which ones have aspartame in them. Im not giving up though, im moving onto OWL. youre at day 9 so its gonna fly in. stick it out and see how you progress. stay off the scales till day 14!

i have to say im feeling good, how are you feeling? are you still having cravings? mine have defo subsided, im really looking forward to reaching the berries rung of owl, thats the only thing im craving, so im taking that as something positive.

Chin up, keep going and only trust your own judgement!

Re: My story..Anyone who has around 30 lbs to lose?

Colleenmag, I am in Turkey. Although I can read the labels I am pretty much on the same boat as you are. Yes, I can read them if there is anything to read.

This is how a typical label is:

              protein...gr
              karbohidrat (carbs)....gr
              fat....gr

This is it if you are lucky! Most stuff does not even have it. So I have been sticking to lettuce, mushrooms, parsley, broccoli, cauliflower..fresh fish, eggs, beef/lamb and cheese

My other issue is measuring (I have no idea what a cup is..well I think I do but I am not sure if Dr.Atkins is referring to the same cup as I have in my kitchen.

Also, with cheese..the cheese i eat here is not listed anywhere. Sometimes I eat sheep's cheese(listed) but most others are so different and it is hard to label them as "camembert" or "mozzarella" if you know what I mean..
And of course, labels do not say much.

I use fitday and let them do the calculation. I do not understand some things there. Sometimes my way off cooking is a bit different but it is not listed there..

Can you please post here a sample menu, what you eat throughout the day..
How much veggies do you eat? I cannot seem to stick to the 2-3 cups. I eat more and let the fitday calculate the carbs and I am always around 12-16 gr per day. The first 2-3 days I was around 22-23. (incl. my usual 2-3 eggs a day and 1 cup cheese)

Re: My story..Anyone who has around 30 lbs to lose?

I know that I have had my critics when it comes to the "just 30 pounds" thing, and wish to briefly address that here.

Should anyone try to convince you that losing 30 pounds is "silly" or "vain," ask them how they would feel if they were forced to stop 30 pounds short of their own goal weight. Puts things right into perspective. For every person who has 100 pounds to lose, there will be 3 more who have 200 - and who's to say whose goals are more appropriate than others?

I am 5'3" (barely), medium frame (people often assume it's small merely due to my dress size), and started out at 141 pounds and pushing a size 12. In fact, I might have even been about 150 in that horrible Before photo below, but I am not certain.

Six years ago, my BMI of 25 was most certainly in the "Overweight" range, and I did not like the way I felt. Knowing that there might have been someone else out there who had 5, 30, or 90 pounds more to lose than I had was absolutely not a factor when it came to how I disliked being in my own skin - and I felt no less worthy of wanting to lose enough weight to where I could sit in jeans with no rolls. The fact is, weight is subjective for all of us! For example, though I carried my extra weight evenly, it distributed quite heavily in my torso: my back, shoulders, upper arms, stomach (particularly the upper-abdominal region). I am convinced that my ALWAYS feeling hot was due to this - and self-conscious because I was always hot ... which made me feel hotter! That was just one thing I hated about being heavier - and yes, even just 35 pounds heavier. That was my reality.

To those not familiar with my personal story, I struggled for years without result to get the extra weight off via caloric and fat restriction and portion control with daily, consistent cardio. Living like this was hellish for me, because the weight just would not come off. Ever - no matter what. However, Atkins, with its plethora of food choices and mere elimination of starches that make it truly so livable, was what ultimately made the difference for me - and I dropped 35 pounds in 5 months. After years of frustrating struggles and strife, this is what worked!

Clearly I am preaching to the choir here, but that is my "only 35 pounds" success story in a nutshell - and if you're vertically-challenged as I am, rest assured it will especially make a difference not only in the way you look, but most importantly the way you feel. My life and outlook has never been better!

Re: My story..Anyone who has around 30 lbs to lose?

I was on Induction for 5 months to goal, afterward building up and introducing additional carbs week by week until I hit my limit to maintain. To keep my weight at under 110, I continue to avoid starches and foods with added sugar, and eat within the confines of Atkins Maintenance at 90-110 total grams per day.

Essentially, if a food is at the low end of the glycemic index, it works for me, and I'm a "Supermarket Perimeter" girl. Imagine how a diabetic eats, and 86 the bread products - that pretty much sums me up! Speaking of which, my father is a Type I Diabetic marathon runner, and is always asking me for food tips. Sort of like a dentist asking his technician about molars, but go figure!

Re: My story..Anyone who has around 30 lbs to lose?

                      Hi Euroasia,

Totally feeling you on the labels problem. Most frozen products here only have a bar code and numerous advertising writing instead of the most important part , the ingredients!! I'm being quite same-y, iv sorta stuck to the same meals every other day. yesterdy i had the following:

Breakfast: 2 eggs scrambled, with blob of butter and some chives and grilled fish(with butter on it!)
lunch: chicken and bacon salad with LOTS of mayonnaise
snack: Meat patties (sorta like a thin hamburger, prob full of sugar!! i think these are whats stalling me if im honest, i can't think of any other snacks!)
Dinner: 2 pieces of steak (medium size) all fat on it, mushrooms. pepper oil, soy sauce ans seasame oil, delicious!

every other day is similar, except i change the meat in my salad, tuna, red pepper (tiny bit) LOTS of mayonnaise again, and have fish or chicken for dinner.

Im not eating many veggies at all cause i was wondering about the CUP thing too. I dont have a scale either so i thought it was best just to avoid them apart fom a handful of mushrooms or a few pieces of peppers here and there.

I got the most gorgeous recipe from someone on this site who saved me from chucking the towel in on day 7 after i weighed myself and i was still the same. It was for pepper poppers. SOOOO good. Its just a pepper, slices in half and deseeded, cook the pepper under the grill for a while, add a blob of cream cheese and a small amount of cheddar and put it back under the grill/oven. It tastes like pizza topping. Also the smallest meanest bit of cheese when melted goes a long way. Iv been careful only to have these twicw during induction, but they are good and im glad iv found an alternative treat to my hamburger thingys. i know they must have hidden sugars in them.

your diet sounds pretty on target from what iv read. maybe try cutting down on the veggies and doubleing the meat and dressing. i find that fills me up more. honstly in a few days youl be able to add the veggies back each week, so a few days without them wont harm you. dont give up. look forward to OWL, i am. Today is my first day on it and im kinda scared to add more veg, but im defo gonna add some. Im having a chicken stifry for lunch, and il add bacon and mushrooms and gonna add some broccoli and peppers to it and drench it in pepper oil, yum.

let me know how you get on

I ordered the Atkins book fromAmazon.com and it should be here in a week or so.

Colleen,it looks like we're definitely on the sameboat. I guess I will have to forgo most of my veggies (and it is so darn hard being from the Meditterenean) I will eat a few leaves of lettuce.

I need to go buy sausages, bacon..I think I am not eating enough of those. As far a the fat goes, any extra fat I use is 2 TBS of olive oil in my salad and 2 TBS for my omlette. Is this too little?

(I eat no salad dressing, mayonnaise, cream)

Sheila...even the choir needs practice!!!!! I hear ya! I am 5' and don't have but around 20-25 to lose...but I am approaching 57years old at a pretty quick clip and taking off 20-25 is evey bit as hard as taking off a bunch!!! It almost seems that those that have a bunch to lose seems to lose so quickly!

I can't believe you can so many carbs and till maintain...I haven't found my "spot" yet, but I don't think it is even nearly close to yours! You lucky duck!

I'm trying to lose "only" 10 kilos now (ummmm 22 lbs?) but for me its a big deal really. Being so short just every 100g shows, especially as most of it lays on my waist.

So, good luck to us all!
