  • To weigh or not to weigh?

I know me and I am going to be totally addicted to the scales now that I've started Atkins. (Naturally I've avoided them for months.) It's not a good thing to get off and on a dozen times a day and get frustrated when the numbers are up, but that's exactly what I've been known to do.

Might be a nice surprise to wait and see a big loss... that may even be more motivating.

So.. did you weigh during induction or wait until the end of the 14 days?

I weighed. But I'm a self-proclaimed scale addict and get really very excited when the numbers go down. When they go up, I just base them against a number I used to be and basically say "well, it's not that, and if I go eat that cake because I'm depressed about it being up, it will be".

Most people say stay away. Did you take your starting measurements as well? I strongly recommend them and a picture. I wish I had a real starting picture. It would both shock and amaze people.

I'm afraid the starting measurements will make me cry, but I'm going to take them tonight. And yes, I have a starting picture too. I'm wearing a yellow blouse in the picture and I plan on keeping that one piece of clothing to be able to put it on and show off how much I've lost.

I have the clothing. It's really really rewarding to put on those pants and go ohmygod, I can fit *2* of me in here!!

If weighing frequently starts to make you feel things are not working and might as well give up then avoid the scale till the end of induction.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

Re: To weigh or not to weigh?

I have the opposite problem; I AVOIDED the scale and didn't weigh after induction, therefore I don't have that great of an estimate of what my CCLL will be...ok, well now I have a bit of an idea...but what I'm saying is this: daily weighing can make you go crazy, and avoiding it completely is a worse idea.

I would wait until induction is over to weigh again. Also, make sure you weigh in the morning after you've gone to the bathroom, completely naked. This will be closest to your "true" weight.

Thanks for the advice, everyone. I'm going to try to not weigh until the 14 days are up, but then I don't promise I won't become a scale addict again!

When I started induction, I believe I was on it for 4 - 5 week, until these fine folks paved the way and show me the awesome joys of OWL, I would weigh in on Mondays, and Thursdays. Although I was tempted, I put the scale in the closet and waited until these days. When I started OWL I only weighed in on Mondays. I still do that now. Scale goes up in the closet until Mondays!

That is a great idea, Scooter. I swear, I've been AWFUL about getting on that scale and then getting frustrated because it's up - including at the end of the day when I've eaten. And I knew better but just kept doing it.

I'm going to try hard to cut it down to once a week (alright, maybe twice).. when induction is over. But only in the morning.

And hey, Scooter... we're neighbors, I live really close to you! You've done great, congratulations!
