  • I said no to cake...

    Hi everyone!

I am very new, but I have been reading these boards like crazy! At home...at work....

So my big news today is that I said no to cake.

    Chocolate cake.

    I said no thanks.

This is something that 5 days ago would have been just...totally crazy.

At work today, we were celebrating a baby shower for a coworker.
Croissants for the chicken and tuna salad.
    Sweets.
    CAKE.

    And I said no.

I know this isn't a huge deal. Doesn't solve any of the world's problems.

However. I feel good. I feel stronger.

    I just said NO to

It is SO a huge deal!

Congratulations! Saying no to those sweets is the hardest thing to do for the first time. As you progress it gets a lot easier, but the first step is always the most difficult. Nearly cried myself when I passed on chocolate the first time it was offered to me after starting Atkins. Lord, it can be a heavy burden, but one that's sooo worth it in the end.

Way to go! Give yourself a huge pat on the back. The first "no" is one you'll always remember and is a huge indication of your commitment to changing your life.

    Best of luck!

It is a HUGE deal!! I have survived almost 6 weeks without a taste of sugar, mostly by avoidance - I might cry if someone were to eat a cupcake in front of me. But I feel so much better and it's awesome fitting into small clothes. Keep going!!!

OOH! Thank you guys so much for responding!

I told my sister just now that I said no to cake, and she actually cheered!
She knows how much I loved sweets. I mean, she KNOWS!

She has seen me go into panic mode when there was no chocolate in the house.

          I feel so good.

I tell you, I know this board is going to be my saving grace!

          Again, thanks for responding!

I truly know how you feel, I would go grocery shopping and I was fine as long as I bought plenty of desserts. Dh would ask "what are we having for meals" and I would think to myself "who knows - I have cookies and that is all that matters" lol - how sick of me!

I too am fairly new to the ADBB and totally addicted to reading the posts and all the recipies. I am so fortunate to have found this place and all its supportive members.

A GREAT BIG HOOOORAY to you for passing up the cake.

I too am a sweet-o-holic so I know how difficult it is to avoid this temptation. Actually, for me its the hardest part of this eating lifestyle. I am so addicted to white sugar that I think I might be going through withdrawal as I have gotten a headache at night the last several days. But. alas, it will all be worth it. I know realistically I may never be skinny, but then again, I don't want to be skinny. I just want to be able to buy clothes in the regular size department, look better and feel better. This time its for ME!

              Keep up the good work!

My husband would ask me how I spent over $200 in groceries, but we only had stuff to make dinner for 3 nights.

                Now we know....

I do want to be skinny. I want to feel my collarbone and hip bones again.
I want to buy little jeans, and walk without my back hurting.

That...is why I said no to cake!!!

Christina - that is awesome! It is a HUGE step. And you'll find that the longer you eat this way, the less you'll want those foods. If I eat something unintentionally that has sugar or another sweetener in it, I actually feel sick. Those things really don't taste that good anymore. Also, I am starting to like foods that I didn't used to - vegetables, especially. Who'd a-thunk?

Also, the reason you cite for losing weight are good, too - for your health and for yourself. Those are the best reasons!

Woo Hoo! I said no to cake last week too. And cake is... I mean WAS one of my favorites! My boss sent me over to a secretary's desk to unlock a cabinet. She was thrilled that I got there so fast and I guess they were having a little party over there and she offered me a piece of cake. I just smiled and said, "No, thank you." and turned and went on my way. It was a bit comical, she had this confused look on her face when I turned her down. I know... I must be crazy to not want cake... RIGHT! hehe... Congrats again!
