  • to much emphasis on fitday?

Last July I lost 20 lbs and have kept it off. I am starting Atkins again because I really need to lose 50 more, but I did fine without fitday. Do I need to keep track of all the percentages of fat and protein, etc? Can I do this and meet my goal without fitday? Hope so because I do not have a computer at home. Have a good day.

i don't use it and i am doing just fine....lots of people use it and are doing fine too....i think it is a great tool to check out your ratios especially if you are not seeing results or if you are unsure about how it all works....so far i've lost 33 pounds without it. i am way too compulsive to start looking at that daily. it would make me crazy!

I love fitday, I never use it for anything other than information but I love it anyway. It is a great tool and if you are not losing as you are hoping to, it can tell you exactly why.

I think it's a great tool, and it's definitely contributing to my success.

You don't have to use fitday specifically, but I think it is neccessary to track your foods somehow, even if it's just writing them down in a notebook. This will be a lifesaver if you have a food intolerance or sensitivity, or if your weightloss stalls. You can look at your food journal and be able to pinpoint the problem.

          Hiya,
I don't use fitday. I found it complicated & confusing!
Glad now because I would hate to be reliant on a program such as that.

Many, many people have had success without fitday and continue to do so. Afterall....Atkins was around long before fitday!

At the end of the day it's a personal choice. Some people may need the structure of sites like fitday. Some may not.

All the best & continued success!!

I'm OCD...and can't use fitday...LOL. It just takes to much time out of my day to imput things on the computer when I can just write it down here at home on the old fashioned pen and paper. However, fitday does keep the percentages nicely, but then again, it can become an obessive issue for some people like me...LOL.

I haven't really used it but every now and then to check my day out.. Its too time consuming.. But if I find that I am not losing I will start keeping better track..

Re: to much emphasis on fitday?

I have used it so far and probably will continue to do so for the remainder of my 14 day induction but I can't see myself using it indefinately, as someone else said it is time consuming and I find it annoying that when I click on scrambled eggs, the scrambled eggs on there are cooked completely different to the way I have cooked them so I have to go find each individual ingredient and process - grr!

Do people actually use the exercise part of that site, imputting each chore etc? That made me exhausted just looking at it ; )

Re: to much emphasis on fitday?

When I first made goal on Atkins I didn't use it, I just wrote down my daily food intake and tracked carbs only and that worked just fine.

I just started using Fitday and this is my 7th week I think.....and I am using it because I knew I was eating too much fat as I progressed into OWL and wanted to keep that in check. Otherwise it's just like writing down the food for me......our computer is always on and it's right here in the family room so it's just as easy as writing it down on paper for me.

I think as long as you keep track of what you are eating, you'll do fine, no matter how you track it!

Re: to much emphasis on fitday?

I, personally, love fitday. Once you start using it, it gets easier. You don't have to put in each ingredient individually if you don't want to. Just create a custom food with the totals. That saves tons of time if you are in a hurry.

I do use the exercise portion and the weight loss tracker. I do not input ever single chore around the house because I was already doing those things before I started Atkins. I put in the intentional exercises like walking/jogging/biking etc.

Fitday can also give you nutritional info. I never used to take vitamins (even though the book says to!) and after looking at the nutritional evaluations, I realized I wasn't getting enough of lots of stuff. I actually put my multivitamin in as a custom food so I can add it and remember to take it!

I know using a product like fitday has been a part of my continued success.

Re: to much emphasis on fitday?

There have ben lots of people who have been very successful that didn't use something like Fitday. For example, I think Sugar Free Sheila never used anything lke that and look at her!

It just depeds upon the person. I never used it my first time around, and didn't start using it this time around until mid April. I resisted it for a long time, citing the same reasons given here... too complicated and time-consuming (which, it turns out, it's not at all after you've practiced and know what you are doing)... may become OCD about it (which, in a way, I am like a dog with a bone - I am always fooling with it). But that is because I am hooked on it - in a good way. I love the hows and whys of things, and tracking this stuff is a scientific way to approach this, and I enjoy that very much. It is fun and makes me feel a little more in control of my situation.

Re: to much emphasis on fitday?

If Fitday helps you, use it. If it does nothing for you... don't bother. Just follow the dietary rules and remember to feed only your hunger and you'll be fine.
Personally, I think people stress too much about the percentages. Dr Atkins didn't dwell on them very much, so I think they should just be a rough guide.
