  • I need help!

I need your guys and gals help. Yesterday, I was at work and everyone was talking about my weight-loss and how I've lost it so fast. They all kept saying that I would have saggy skin from loosing it so fast. I got scared and last night I went to eat and ate onion rings, and chicken tenders, and carrot cake to stall the weight loss. Anyway I feel like I let myself down. I don't know what to do now. I made up my mind not to eat like that again. But do I start the Induction over again? How can I avoid saggy skin and letting people get to me like that again? Please help.

Hey Hiz! I moved this thread to the induction forum so that you will receive a better response to your dilemma.

I would suggest that you ignore people who tell you things. You are making the commitment to eat this way for you, your health and no one else. Do you exercise? That can certainly help some with skin sagginess. However, I don't think it's something you can avoid entirely. It's still healthier to lose the weight.

I would recommend you to start induction again. I would also highly recommend that you follow the plan to the T. Move yourself up the food ladder appropriately so that you get the right amount of food and nutrients for your body.

Here's a link for you to do some reading. It's a site about body metabolism. You do have to do a certain amount of reading to understand it all, but for you I think it would be well worth it.

I went to the site and I entered my stats on the BMR it said my BMR is 2663.7. I don't know what that means where do i figure out what that means? I restarted the induction this morning. Will I have to go through the Induction flu again? that was horrible.

          Re: I need help!

No, you might not have any ill effects at all this time. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.
          Do you use www.fitday.com?

It's a site where you can log your weight & food intake (and exercise) each day and it will keep track of your calories and percentages of fat/protein/carbs you eat each day. For induction level you should be at 30% protein 60-65% fat and the rest (5%)from veggie carbs.

It's really imporant to eat the proper amounts of fat/pro/carb and the calories don't matter so much. They still matter in that if you eat more than you expend each day, yeah, you're gonna gain weight.

Drink plenty of water! The general rule is 64 oz for everyone regardless of weight. Then, add 8 oz per 25 pounds you want to lose. As a woman, I can tell you that water works wonders for the skin!

            Re: I need help!

P.S. For fitday, you might find you are not eating enough food based on your now known BMR. When you read thru the BMR site, that # reperesents your basic weight to maintain if you do absolutely nothing all day. They suggest deducting 500 calories from that number to lose weight. At your current weight though, you would have to read what the losing number is for you.

                  Re: I need help!

Well, very little veggies must be 2 cups of "salad veggies" off of the acceptable list as well as one cup of "other" veggie (like broccoli, spinach, cauliflower etc) off of he acceptable list.

As far as fat goes, this is is what is going to stop your hunger and cravings. You will get your fat by using real butter in your cooking, olive oil or vegetable o il, eating avocados, heavy cream, cheeses (in limited quantities), eating the skin from chicken etc.

Did you read the book, by chance? Read all of the "sticky's" at the top of the 14 day Induction Forum. It will help to figure all this out for you.

Absolutely that's why you're hungry! Wow, glad I caught you. It really is imperative to do this properly, particularly when you have a fair amount to lose. There is a science behind it, and if not done properly, it's not going to work. Are you able to purchase the book in the very near future? You will be amazed at how much sense it all makes when you see it in black and white, you know?

Atkins is not all about bacon and steak. Atkins incorporates vegetables right from day one, and the quantities increase as you move along! It's about retraining yourself to eat in a healthful manner. It's about eating non processed, whole, fresh foods. By following this, you will be able to eat grains again in your future, just whole grains instead of white flour, soy flour instead of white flour. You will be able to eat sweets, just legal ones (like cheesecake!). This is not a weight loss thing, but rather a life style change for health.

Hiz, I know what you are talking about and I worried about the same thing. I lost at a fast pace too and I was thinking what will my body look like if I keep losing at this pace. I was much bigger than you and older too. I have noticed that as my weightloss has slowed that inches are leaving and the elasticity in my skin is coming back. I know I will have some skin but it is not going to be as much as I once thought. Don't let the naysayers scare you again. Stay on plan and take each day at a time.

thank you brady, its nice to know that I'm not the only one with saggy skin issues. You know I can't believe that I did that, I was doing so good. Now I had to start the induction over again. Oh well tomorrow will be day 2, hopefully I won't get that flu again. Thanks again brady.

                              Re: I need help!

Loose skin is a worry for us all, but the weight is more of a worry. Also, the older you are when you lose the weight is only going to make the problem worse, so, at 29, it is best to change your eating habits NOW.

I have been at this for almost two years and was 55 years old when I started. I lost 102 pounds in 10 months, and, yes, I had some loose skin. Especially on my previously unlined face and neck. This bothered me somewhat, so I checked out what helps skin health and have stuck to what works. I have from the beginning, drank 128 ounces of plain water. I also drink green tea made with 32 ounces of water and two tea bags.

The nutrients you get from veggies are the very ones that you need to keep your skin young--especially vitamin B. Not only do I eat a LOT of the allowed veggies, I take a B-50 every day.

Fat is very good for the skin. I try to keep up my good fats from extra virgin olive oil, flax oil, fatty fish and butter very high. Coconut oil also helps many people.

Your skin is your biggest organ, and a lot those of those chemicals from processed foods and drinks have to be processed out of the body through the skin in sweat (think detox). Cleaning up your food to as close to all whole foods will go a long way towards giving your skin a break and a glow. I eat about 98% whole foods and nearly none of processed foods.

Exercise is one of the best ways to tone and firm up skin. I have been religiously exercising since shortly after beginning.

I have now lost 118 pounds and am 57 years old and the good news is that all of the loose skin is starting to firm up. I just noticed how firm the skin ('turkey wattle') on my neck has gotten again. I just stuck it out and did the right things and it is so worth it.

The other thing to remember is that at your weight and gender, you are bound to lose weight very quickly--at the beginning. Another fact of life is that this will slow down all on it's own, especially when you get closer to goal. This is a good thing. It gives your body a chance to catch up.

Please don't pay any attention at all to people's advice. You have to do what is right for you. If you keep eating the way you were, the only possible thing that can happen is your weight will be going up more every year and you will be older--thus the problem of damaged skin will be much worse.

Stick it out and come here often for advice and support.

                              Sunny!

"Some men give up their designs when they have almost reached the goal; While others, on the contrary, obtain a victory by exerting, at the last moment, more vigorous efforts than ever before."
