Although my pants are fitting a little bit looser, I was shocked this morning to get on the scale (the first time since beginning induction two weeks ago) and find out i actually gained 2 pounds (from 225 to 227)!!! I think my problem is that i'm eating too much. I haven't cheated, but I LOVE atkins friendly food. I love saugage, steak, etc., and I think I've been eating too much of the stuff (i've also been drinking diet coke). I'm guessing that I should eat less calories and stop drinking diet coke, correct? Has anyone had a similar experience with induction? thanks.

Re: Day 13 of induction...up 2lbp on scale!!!
jmbrow- First off, take a deep breath
Are you keeping a journal of what you're eating? Can you give us a detailed account of a couple days worth of menus? - Just to be sure you're on the right track.
If your pants are fitting looser, then you know you're doing something right. You have to remember that the scale doesn't tell the whole story. I know it's frustrating, but it's true.
If you're loading up on foods heavy in sodium, it's gonna cause bloat. The diet coke should be hip-checked, for sure, and until we get a good look at what you're eating it's hard to say anything to you about cutting back. Cutting back on calories generally isn't the answer, believe it or not. You're supposed to be eating until you feel satisfied - not full- and if you're doing that, then you're doing okay. That doesn't mean that WHAT you're eating couldn't stand some tweaking though. Let us have a look-see, please?
Your stats would be very helpful as well. And when you list out that menu, ...make sure you list everything that went in your mouth, i.e. food/drink , what you're doing for exercise, any supplements you're taking, medical issues/medications.
Hang in there!!

Another thing is to make sure you are weighing yourself at the same time each day. I litterally can fluctuate by up to 5 pounds throughout a given day, so I know to only count the readings that were taken at the same time each day in order to obtain an accurate number. Got to compare apples to apples.

Re: Day 13 of induction...up 2lbp on scale!!!
Brook, thanks for the reply!
I've been eating the same stuff every day:
Breakfast - 3 harboiled eggs or a 3 egg omelet with cheese and ham
lots of water in between breakfast and lunch, with occasional diet coke and flavored water...both containing 0 carbs
Lunch - large salad, probably about 4 loose cups of spinach and mixed green along with shredded cheddar, at least a cup of tuna, ranch dressing, some real bacon bits, and occasionally a couple mushrooms.
Snack: 2 polish sausages with no bun.
Dinner: 16oz ribeye steak
Snack: 2 johnsonville smoked sausages...2 carbs each or 2 burgers...1 carb each.
No medicine or suplements other than centrum multi-vitamin and just started taking some sugar-free fiber supplement.
Thanks for everyone's help!

Your eating too much veggies. You are allowed 3 cups of "salad" veggies or 2 cups of "salad" veggies with 1 cup of other veggies (spinach is one of the "other" veggies. Also your veggies should be spread out throughout the day-not eaten all at one meal. See this link: http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...ead.php?t=6781Originally posted by jmbrowBreakfast - 3 harboiled eggs or a 3 egg omelet with cheese and ham

Check the ingredients of the sausages and burgers. They can contain fillers such as sugars even with the low carb count.
Last-as you already know-get rid of the soda. You should try to just drink plain water throughout the day.Heidi

Re: Day 13 of induction...up 2lbp on scale!!!
If you're using a food scale and getting accurate measurements, you *can* eat more than 3 cups a day of veggies, but you must stay under a total of 20 grams of carb (and you should be using something like Fitday to get as close to accurate carb counts for your food as possible - thus weighing them vs measuring them). If you're not using a food scale and Fitday- stay with the 3 cups of salad veggies or 2 cups salad veggies/1 cup other veggie. That's directly from the old-school Atkins Center themselves. (Not Atkins Nutritionals aka Money Sucking Ferrets
).
As noted above - make sure your meats aren't full of fillers.
Make sure you're eating enough to be satisfied (not hungry anymore) instead of until you're full. That's probably the toughest thing to learn - at least it was for me.
Make sure you're staying under 3-4oz of cheese a day, and make sure they're the allowed hard cheeses. This is a very easy place to mess yourself up.
The sodium in the foods you're eating has to be about astronomical. Keep that in check as well.
And where...oh where... is the exercise?!! You don't have to start out trying to give olympic athletes a run for their money. Get thee out there and walk!!
Honestly, you *are* eating a lot, and while we don't count calories, calories *do* count- so again, make sure you're eating until satisfied. I know Ive said that a lot, but it's important.
Get yourself a free fitday account and start keeping really detailed records of everything you're putting in your mouth. It's rather eye opening! You can also keep track of your stats there. As also mentioned before- be sure you're weighing in at the same time every day....and if the scale throws you off - stay off that sucker and make good friends with your tape measure.
Be sure to read this while you're at it: http://primusweb.com/fitnesspartner/...ight/scale.htm
Lastly - You're welcome - and welcome aboard!

Re: Day 13 of induction...up 2lbp on scale!!!
for some ppl the sodium nitrate can stall u're weight loss, and that's found in those sausages u're eating. Are u eating em w/ketchup or bbq sauce bc that's a no-no right now too (talking from experience). Also as pp stated thats a lot of sodium, how much water are u drinking at least 100oz? I dont allow myself a diet pop unless i've had AT LEAST 100 oz of water. I think the rule of thumb is 64 oz and then 8oz per every 25 pds or something like that..or u're weight divided in half is the amount u should drink.
Good luck, and keep posting what u're eating so we can help.Tasha

Re: Day 13 of induction...up 2lbp on scale!!!
I am wondering if the sausage and ham are not contributing to the problem? I am only a newbie, but I could not find any ham at the store that did not have sugar added (so I did not buy any). I would think sausages might have the same problem with processing?
Happily, I DID find a bacon that did not have nitrates OR sugar!!
ps: what about the ranch dressing? Are there lo-carb salad dressings? (I could not find one of those, either!)
