  • What Will Pull You Out Of Ketosis...(Diet Soda?)

    Hello Everyone!!!! I'm so excited to be here and that I found this wonderful Forum. I started Atkins the Monday Before Thanksgiving and I have lost 4 lbs. However I did have a Cheat Day on Thanksgiving Day but I started over and still I haven't lost anymore then those 4 lbs.

    Now I am new so I need some help. I have been drinking tons and loads of Diet Soda!! Diet Dr. Pepper, Diet Pepsi, Diet Sunkist, Diet Coke, Diet Vanilla Coke EVERYDAY about 3 or 4 cans a day. Will this stop Ketosis?

    Do Ketosis cause frequent urination?? I've been going to the bathroom a whole lot too!

    And Last.. I have been having Diarreha (SO SORRY I know it's Gross) Is that because of Atkins? What are signs of Ketosis if you don't have the Ketostix?

    Thanks so much everyone I really need help. I have two children and I gained all the way to 160 when my normal weight is 115
    i'm only 5'1 so it doesn't look good on me.

    I would cut out all the diet soda. It is a known staller and you are exceeding your allowance sweetners each day. Plus there is all the caffine you are consuming. Make the switch to water and you'll lose more and be healthier.

      Thank you so much for this! I'm currently reading Dr. Atkins book and I'm only at chapter 4 and it doesn't say anything in the first few chapters about Diet Sodas. Today I haven't drank any Diet Soda only Water ! Which was extremly hard to do. I had no Idea that it was so hard to stop drinking Soda. Geez and today I almost ate Ice Cream man I really have to get my game face on if I want to lose 30 lbs. Thanks so much for the help and compliment I was hoping to get more responses but I guess everyone is tried of answering the questions I asked!! LOL

        Hi, Rachel! Welcome to ADBB.

        If I told you I had a magic weight loss product that guaranteed to help you lose weight, you'd be all over me to give it to you, right????

        Water. Pure water. Nothing but the water.

        Sodas have quite a bit of sodium which causes the body to retain water in order to flush the sodium out.
        Most sodas are made with Aspartame. Dr. Atkins advises us not to use aspartame as it is a known staller.
        Most people will drink soda instead of water. We need LOTS of water on Atkins. Ketogenic diets (of which Atkins is one) have diuretic properties. This means they will cause you to shed water. However, if you allow yourself to get dehydrated, your body will then hold on to every drop of water it can and store them in your tissues. So, you want to make sure that you drink lots and lots of water. Caffeine is also a diuretic. So, if you are drinking sodas that contain sodium and caffeine, you are going to have all kinds of issues.

        I know its hard to get off the sodas, they are SO addictive. But that's what we're all about here, kicking those bad addictions to the curb, losing weight and getting uber healthy all at the same time.

          I agree!! You have to ditch the soda! I have pretty much done that. I find that the sweetness from the diet soda causes cravings for me so I stay away from them most of the time. I do deal with myself sometimes when I want a soda. I never allow myself to have a soda until I have drank all 96oz of water for the day. That way I make sure I get all my water un for the day! I have started to get those little baby cans of soda and treat those like a snack. I think they have 8 ozs or even less in them and that is more than enough to make my tastebuds happy!!!

            I agree with what the others have said. Also if you are absolutely dead-set on starting the Diet before reading the book in its entirety---at least, read Chapter 11, which tells you how to do ATkins Induction the proper way. I know I'm sounding like a real "B" about this, but if you only knew the number of people who have failed miserably because they relied on second or third hand information about how to do this diet, you would see my point.

              Thanks so much for the advice! You guys all look so great! I can't wait to put up my before and after photo.... and Star omg You are half way to your goal!! You guys are truely modivational and good support! I know I can do this. After over two years of dieting and struggle I finally found a Diet that I love and can actually do. Portion Control Diets just made me gain.. I love Atkins because at least I can eat until i'm satified I love it!! My hunger is going away I feel good and healthy and this is really the best decision I could have ever made. I'm learning a lot about Atkins and I must admit the first week I did it all wrong because I didn't hardly read the book but now i'm more educated and i'm reading the book plus this Board is full of great information!



              Thanks so much you guys You all look so Great I can't wait until I get there, I have thousands of dollars worth of clothes I can't fit anymore some still with tags on them.
