  • First Week Ramblings

    I'm 3 days past my 1 week mark - I feel GREAT! I lost 6 lbs in 7 days, and I have NOT been hungry! To me this is utterly amazing.

    Because I have been a Weight Watcher and a Low Fat dieter, some of the stuff I'm eating is completely foreign to me and frankly freaks me out at times. Last night I made salmon, cut into small pieces and dipped in egg and then ground up pork rinds and fried - it was very good, but I kept thinking "I can really eat this?"

    Eggs - I only lasted 2 days with hard boiled eggs - ughh. Then I found the crustless quice recipe here - that is what we all have for breakfast now - I cooked them in the muffin cups - we can grab one as we're heading out the door - I eat mine at the first stop light that I have on my commute.

    My first few days I took a fairly large lunch - but by the third day I could not eat it all - the reduced appetite kicked in - WOW - that has also been a big eye opener for me.

    No Cravings ????? I cannot believe that - I don't crave the pasta, rice, potatoes that I was convinced I couldn't live without.

    I do have 2 cups of coffee in the morning - this was something I just did not want to give up - I've been losing fine with it so..... Also I do like to have 1 soda a day so I bought the diet rite black cherry - it is really good.

    So glad I found this forum - it has already helped alot. I also visited a thrift store this weekend and got the 2002 edition of the book - read most of it yesterday - I'm actually looking forward to the OWL.

    I got to 154 on Weight Watchers a few years ago - and just in one week on Atkins I'm within 15 lbs of that - I feel I can breeze through this and FINALLY make it to my actual goal!

    We are going on a trip to Europe in May - we will be walking and walking and I want to enjoy it and not be out of breath etc.

    We also want to hike to Grinnell Glacier this summer in Glacier National Park so these two goals go along with the weight loss.

    don't forget, soft boiled is like sunny side up only in the egg, poaches eggs. eggs with hllindaise sause <eggs benedict>, deviled eggs, egg salad..... Ok I am starting to feel like Bubba Gump. "Shrimp cakes, shrimp kabobs, shrimp scampi, shrip a la king, shrimp almond ding....blah blah blah"

      How do you prepare your coffee? I think my most favorite thing in the world is a single cup of coffee with 3 tbsp of French Vanilla Fat-Free Coffeemate, but unfortunately its a low 75 calories and HIGH 15 carbs so I haven't touched it. I'm curious if youre losing but still being able to sneak that one cup in ;-) I was debating my one-morning-cup-on-weekends idea.

        There are flavor drops made by Capella Coffee and the drops are sugar free, calorie free, and carb free and they have these flavors. So you could still have your french vanilla plus some. If you do a seach for Capella Coffee you'll find it and just hit up the flavorings link

              I drink my coffee black - always have so no need to add anything. I'm trying to start drinking my water earlier in the day so I find I'm not drinking as much coffee as I used to, but oh I LOVE that first cup in the morning.

                Oh oh this is a good time for me to confirm something.

                Sucralose = Splenda right ?

                I looked at the ingredients on a box from the groc store (yellow box) just simply called Sucralose, and it was identical to Splenda

                The reason I ask is because I've been buying the starbucks sugar free flavor syrups for a while and never looked at them. I have not used them since I started Atkins but today I decided to look and they use Sucralose as the sweetner.

                So, I am thinking hmmm if Sucralose = Splenda and Splenda is OK to use on Atkins (limited amounts for induction) then the starbucks sugar free flavors being sweetened with Sucralose should be OK to use in my 1 cup a day I am limiting myself to.

                Can anyone confirm ?

                    Congratulations on your induction results and your positive attitude. You will do it!! Great job. Coffee was the one thing that I worried the most about. I made a commitment to myself that I'd quit drinking coffee until I'd lost the first 100 pounds. I didn't touch it during that time and have found that it really isn't that important to me now as it seemed at the time. It was an excuse - Which I've conquered and it doesn't control my thoughts anymore. That's the beauty of Atkins...you learn to be in control of what you eat and drink. It's a beautiful feeling.
