  • New to Atkins - Second Day of Induction/problem

    Hi all,

I started the Atkins diet yesterday and have for the last 10 hours, I've had a headache that won't go away and I am spending too much time cramping and releasing in the bathroom....is this common when you first start out. I am a sweet fanatic and the withdrawl is terrible. Any words of wisdom would be appreciated.

I am on the Atkins diet to lose 25 pounds and two women at work are doing great and have lost 25 pounds each within 8 weeks...I'm encouraged but I need to know when I will start feeling better.

    Please help!

    Sorry to hear about this.
I've heard of others having this. I had a slight headache but an advil took it away. They say it goes away as time progresses.
I think I read that these are symptoms of the withdrawal of some bad stuff in your system. I switched to Splenda about 2 years ago, so maybe that's why my symptoms were so mild... ??
    My Stats:

    Restart date: April 15, 2009

Withdrawal from any particular chemical is always tough, so induction can be hard on the sweet-toothed Atkineer

As Jen said, you can take a headache pill to get rid of the pain, and hopefully before too long you will be feeling better.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

First 3 days are the toughest. Get through them and it's all downhill. Stick it out and hang in there. God Bless, Joe

And remember to drink water. It is important to keep your body hydrated despite the cramping and discomfort.

Re: New to Atkins - third day of Induction

            HI all,
Day three and I'm feeling somewhat better. I must admit that I haven't bought the Atkins book, but I will today. I do feel better, very slight headache, but I wont complain. Couldn't eat a egg today so I had a Atkin drink which was 5 carbs...that was breakfast.

I am a little concern but hope that I am following the plan. I had a half of avocado yesterday with tuna salad. I prepared the tuna with egg and celery and kraft mayo (no carbs). It was great...almost too good to think that I should be eating it. It is recommended as a lunch meal in the induction. I was so full that I didn't eat dinner, but had a dill pickle with 1 oz of cheese and 1 slice of ham.

            Is that okay? Thanks,
            Rose

Rose - you would be better eating proper food rather than a drink of any kind particularly when on induction.

Can you prepare something that is not eggs? They are not mandatory for breakfast or any other meal, so you can eat anything on the allowed list!

I usually make a crustless quiche using eggs, cream, cheese, veggies & meat which does me for 6 portions of breakfast and can be heated if I want a hot meal or eaten cold.

As for your dinner snack, that was fine - Dr Atkins says to eat a little something if you are not very hungry and you chose a good combintion of fat/protein/carbs there
