  • Day 12 and very tired

I am day twelve and just never got the energy you are supposed to get. I drink close to 200 ounces of water a day and not other drinks, just the water, and eat very clean. I am losing pretty fast, right now about a pound a day. 17 pounds in 12 days ,well, today is day 12, so I quess i lost it in 11 days. Could the fast weight loss be causing the lack of energy?
I know most times on low carb I have so much energy and feel so great, and I do not feel bad, but I am pretty tired all the time.
Most days I have two eggs and two to four bacon for breakfast,
lunch is either two chicken thighs and a cup and a half of green beans, but lately is a big salad of greens and a chicken breast, boneless and skinless and I use organic mayo and a splash of Newmans Own olive oil and vinegar salad dressing and dinner is usually chicken, sometimes steak, and the green beans again.
I have noticed even after a big dinner, say two large chicken leg quarters and the cup and a half of cooked green beans, I can be starving just an hour later, which has also never happened to me on low carb, usually I have energy and no appetite.
If it is just because I am losing fast, that is fine, I can handle it, but just thought I would ask for some input.
I do take a womans mulit and a potassium and a calcium , mag and zinc suppliments with dinner.
    Thanks,
    Stephie

Are you eating enough? Have you tried to punch your menu in with fitday.com to see how many calories that works out to?

I have not been doing fitday every day but the average calories when I do is about 1600 sometimes a bit more and sometimes a bit less.
How many calories should I be eating ? I am falling asleep on the sofa tonight at six thirty pm and that is just not like me. I am usually up until one or two am.
I guess I will have to look at my calories and see if I can up them a bit.
Thanks so much for pointing that out !! I hope it helps !!

About 1754 calories according to the one I used. Your percentages should be about 5%carb/65%fat/30%protein if you are still on induction. So you could be eating a bit more...on Atkins you can even go a bit higher.

Did you stop any medications? We have had a member who stopped a med just before he started and dropped weight like crazy and actually passed out for a few minutes.

Are you eating regularly through out the day?? At least once every 6 waking hours or you may need to do more mini meals. Did you cut out caffenine? If so...maybe withdrawal still?

Did I do the math wrong?? Are you drinking 24 cups of water a day? That is a lot of water IMO. I think I did that wrong...

Re: Day 12 and very tired

          HI Else,
I do drink about 25 glasses of water a day, and it is not that I try, I just seem to drink a lot. I think it is like smoking for me,although I have NEVER smoked in my life. I like to have my cup near me and I drink out of it all day. I used to drink two liters of soda a day and used a ton of ice in it, so it was more fluid ounces that just the two liters, probably about three liters or even more with the ice, so it makes sense, it is close to the same amount of liquid, maybe about three glasses more, just water instead of soda and ice, I thought I would have to work at it. . I am not trying in the least to get that much in and I am not that thirsty either, just a habit. I drink this water from about nine am to about one am, so it is over a lot of hours . About sixteen hours or so.
I have tried getting in mini meals and I will attempt it again, I forget and we get busy around the house, my husband works second shift and leaves at one thirty so that is our time to run errands and watch tv and do chores and projects around the house, and with an 80 year old house, there are plenty, lol !! I do work hard to at least get breakfast and lunch before he leaves and then I usually have a snack in the afternoon and then my dinner.
No, I do not think it is caffiene withdrawel, it has been eleven days off of it, and some days I am not this tired. I am not particularly stressed so the stress is not from that.
Nope, the only meds I take is ibuphrophen when needed and that is it. I am in good health with a slightly elavated cholesteral which I know this diet will help and my blood pressure is good so meds are not the problem .
No dizziness or faintness, just tired. Some yawning and starting to nod off on the sofa in the evening. This is a worse day than usual too.
I will keep an eye on the calories and see if upping them a bit helps , thanks so much !! You and Liv have both been a big help.

I find the fat we can eat with our foods is what makes it more satisfying to me, so I wonder if you are low in fat?

I could not tell from your list of foods whether you are adding fat in the form of oil or butter to your meals. Are you eating chicken skin or are your chicken pieces skinless?
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

Re: Day 12 and very tired

I learned in one of my college classes, Nutrition, specifically, that if you drink too much water in a day, over a gallon, it can have a diluting effect on your blood. I bet that is what is happening, as you are consistently drinking soooo much water. Weird, I know, I was shocked too, to learn that you can overdo a good thing.

I can certainly believe that you can drink too much water I have read that but I also think that ElizEllen has it right too, I took her advise myself and added more fat to my menu and find I have more energy and nod off a little less in the evenings.

Interesting on the water comment. I drink well over a gallon daily as well as 1-2 pots of coffee a day as well and I have nothing but energy. I believe I'm into me 77 day of Atkin's so far. And all is well. Hang in there and keep the faith. God Bless, Joe

I just remember it from class, and now that I think of it, I believe it was from a very intensive first aid class. Just something to consider. Plus, if your coffee is caffeinated, you need to take in 2 cups water per every cup, just to compensate that loss via the caffeine. So you may be breaking even that way.

                        Stephie,

Just a note to say why not check with your Doctor. My brother was very tired and excessively thirsty all the time. Come to find out he was diabetic. I am on my 15th day of Atkins and have been tired on and off falling asleep at odd times. Then the next day I have tons of energy! Good luck! and I hope all is well with you.

Re: Day 12 and very tired

Thanks Patti, I am not really concerned about diabetes because the tiredness only happened after I was not eating the crap and was on this plan. I have always drank a lot of fluids and always come back negitive on the diabetes. IIt was a good suggestion but for me, I do not think it is that, I really think it could be I am losing pretty fast and I know years ago on either this board or another one I read that if you are losing very fast you can be quite tired and I have been losing a pound a day most every day, so that just could be it. I am also solidly in menapause so it could be partly that too.
My drinking a lot of water is not from thirst, my drink, used to be soda or tea and is now water is just like cigerette smoking for some I suppose. I always have to have a cup with me and I am always drinking out of it. Just a habit, a bad one with the soda that I have turned into a good one with the water.
I am day 16 and like you have better days with more energy and then days I fall asleep, maybe it is just the way it is when you are doing it right ??? Stephie

As you are past the 14 days, maybe you should add 5 net carbs more of the induction veggies and see if that has an effect on your weariness?

Re: Day 12 and very tired

I might try that. I am not sure what carbs I am even getting. I just eat on plan and do not really measure. I have on average about three or so cups of usually green beans but also broc and occasional squash, but I can also eat half that of the cooked and a few cups of salad greens with a touch of tomato and onion and fresh garlic if I have the salad with protien for one of my meals. Breakfast is usually bacon and eggs or hamburger patties with salt and pepper on them.
I will go to fitday and see what carbs I am getting. Okay, just checked. On a day with salad I get aprox 21 carbs with 9 grams of fiber so if I do net carbs then it will be 12 carbs, and if I eat the veggies both meals it is 9 carbs for the day with 4 fiber so that is five.
I am not trying to keep my carbs so low, I just eat what I am allowed and that is how low it comes out.
I wil try to up the veggies a bit, but I am a bit less tired, so that is good. I still wake up very achy every morning, joint pain, but with menapause and being so heavy, that is probably explained away. It could be our crappy bed too, lol !!!
                              Thanks,
