Re: For those starting Atkin's on 7/7/2008.

I walked the dogs today!! I used to be an avid walker/runner/martial arts/weight lifter. But, that was before back surgery & migraine morphing. So now it is a big deal to walk the dogs. Reason-it's a production just to get ready. 3 large labs with leashes/collars (halti for male). Can't forget poopy bags. Need lots in case all three need them. And then there is the extra attentiveness they require. They are VERY well behaved, though. I put on a belly pouch and attach the leashes to that. They aren't allowed to pull or forge ahead of me. Like I said, well behaved. But I still have to pay attention to them.

But I did it today. Just went around the little block-30 minutes. It's actually about a mile. Very slow for me but I didn't want to push the first day-with still being on induction.

I signed up for tomorrow's 20/24 challenge!! I started looking around for challenges and thought I better try that one first.

Lunch - taco salad with 5 oz bison meat, 1 oz cheddar/monteray jack cheese, 1 cup romaine + 1 TB SOUR CREAM!!! I love sour cream!

Breakfast - 2 hardboiled eggs, 1 oz cojack cheese, 2 TB flaxseed hot cereal with .5 oz heavy cream.

    Doing good so far.

Back outside. Beautiful weather today. Bye-bye weeds!!!

Wow.. sounds like a good night and a good morning!

Hillbilly - YOU GO!!! How's your head today? I feel much better

Tasha - I'm with you. Stress like that makes me want ice cream and lasagna LoL. I, too, had an atkins shake this morning.. or two... I was starving and I was running WAY late, so it was between that or the boston baked beans in the vending machine at work.

Heiricka - PERFECT description!! Crackless crackhead... Dry Alcoholic. I know exactly what you mean too. Good to see youre still with us! Dont rush yourself on the exercise. Do what you feel up to. I always waited the first whole week, but that is probably cause I'm a sissy

Bekka - Good luck and have a great time today! Am also waiting for TOM to be gone, but I did peek at the scale last night and had lost 4 pounds so far.. but thats how my TOM works.. I wooshie during the week, but the week after it leaves is when I retain water like a sponge Do you find that your pain is worse for the first TOM after you begin Atkins?

Re: For those starting Atkin's on 7/7/2008.

Bekka, I sure hope things work out with you and your beau. You'll be fitting those size 16s before you know it.

Tom, my goodness, 3 labs?? Wow! Have fun. That IS a lot to get ready for.

Nikki and Tasha, so the Atkins shakes are ok? I love the chocolate one and I was actually drinking it before I officially started Atkins. Someone told me not to drink them but I didn't see the problem since they were basically only 1 net carb. Has anyone tried the other flavors of Atkins shakes?

Y'all, my doctor disproves of me doing Atkins. But let me tell you something if I haven't already. Atkins has been doing wonders for my glucose. BUT, yesterday I got a salad from this place and their ranch dressing was horrid, as was the blue cheese that she gave me too. So, when I got home, the only thing I had was a choice of light and I think fat free. Now, I figured if I used very little it would be ok, because though it was higher in carbs than regular dressing, it didn't put me too far over the edge. I was too hungry and headachy to go out and buy dressing. This morning I get up and my glucose is high. I could not believe that. I sat here thinking, how could my doctor tell us to use low fat crap when it is higher in sugar. AND THIS IS MY DIABETIES EDUCATOR. There is no way to lose weight on low fat and fat free stuff. You stay hungry, only because it's high in sugar and carbs, so it's like a lose-lose situation. He can kiss my size 22. I'll never go back to anything else. So no matter how many sweets I see around me, I will not give in, simply because just a little bit will do me in.
Erica aka Caterpillar, watch me transform!
Being Healthy is NOT an option!!
        My highest weight was 291.

Re: For those starting Atkin's on 7/7/2008.

Oh, well, didn't eradicate all the weeds, but I made a good try. Got one side and the front done. And transplanted a heath and three lavenders.

Dinner - 4 oz filet mignon (the only way to go!), 1 TB mayo, .5 cup romaine, .25 cup cucumbers.

Planned snack for later - Someone earlier mentioned they had marinated veggies. That's was I'm going to do for later. I'll add cheese & bacon, too. Depends on what FitDay has my stats at. Haven't added dinner yet.

              A very successful day.

Anyone want to share what specific foods make them weak. I told my DD & DH not to make toast around me. For some reason, the smell just cries out "Eat Me". Last night I recorded a Food Network Challenge about baking/decorating birthday cakes. I couldn't watch it later last night or this morning (just after eating). I used to have a home bakery and the cake icing went straight to my head. What a sugar rush!!!

The Brand is called "Bakers Delux" I order it online and have it delivered to my house, or work. I so far have tried their cranberry-orange muffins, Caramel explosion brownies and apple-cinnamon muffins, and none have dissapointed!
Do make sure you check the list of ingredients of any mixes that claim to be OK for Atkins to make sure they are all on the induction-allowed list of foods.
I looked online and found this (http://bakersdeluxe.com/muffin-carrot.php?carrot=muffin) which I think is the ones you mean, which shows that it contains several ingredients like flour, soy beans, cranberries, corn starch etc that are not 'legal' till the higher OWL rungs.

There are many muffin recipes here with 'legal' ingredients that you could try instead and save this product till you have reached the grains rung of OWL..
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

Re: For those starting Atkin's on 7/7/2008.

Dinner addition-couldn't wait for snack time. I made the marinade and put it in the frig with the veggies. Then I decided that I was still hungry from supper (1 hr ago), so I ATE THE WHOLE THING!! Boy, was it good. Cauliflower, cucumber, red pepper, yellow pepper, cojack cheese & bacon. For the marinade I used red wine vinegar, light olive oil, granulated onion (smaller than bits but bigger than powder), basil, marjoram, salt, pepper. This one is a keeper. And I get to eat for a while AND CRUNCH.

So now I'll relax a bit then hit the hay. And tomorrow is DAY 5!!!! WOOOO! Should I step on the scale? I normally fluctuate several pounds and TOM is close. Any advice?

Thanks a bunch for the support/conversation. I really look forward to reporting my progress. It kinda gives me incentive to keep doing induction clean. Plus, it is very nice to have someone to help through the rough times.

Re: For those starting Atkin's on 7/7/2008.

                    Goodevening everyone! =)

Nikki- I think I retain the water before TOM actually starts, so when I'm on it, I lose the water and I become less bloated. It's a wonder why I felt bloated all weekend and decided that enough was enough!!! I'm sorry that you retain water after, that's no fun at all. And you're right, I think it's far more painful after starting this WOL.

Hillbilly- I'd wait til TOM was over, but if you really want to look, you have the right to because you deserve it! =)

Heirika- What a load of codswallop!!! Shouldn't your doctor know that your body also produces glucagon (sugar) in order to raise the blood sugar incase it's too low? I'd say stick with this way of life. You're not eating sugar, it's your body that's doing it's work for you. Eating too much sugar in the low fat, low calorie diet isn't going to cut it for you because eventually, you're going to destroy your pancreas that way. That just makes me so mad that they disprove of it when this way of life is perfectly okay and helps those with diabetes. Pshaw on him.

Privet- 5.5 Pounds!! Heck ya! Awesome job. =) I'm very proud of you. I really want to look at the scale, but I promised my buddy that I will look when she is going to look. We'll see how much we both have lost. Can't wait!

As for me. =) Well, I'm doing very fine and dandy. I went to see John and I had a lovely time with him. We just sat down and talked about everything that happened between us and what has happened while we were away from each other. It was nice. He honestly is a really great guy and he just makes me smile. He really does know how to treat a woman and knows the right things to say to make her smile. And he made me smile today. I just love it when he tells me that I'm a beautiful and very intelligent girl and that's he's lucky to have me again. I'm happy. I can't believe the void in my life would be him filling it for me. He's also very encouraging and is in fact happy that I'm working on myself and losing weight. I can't wait til I fit into those jeans so I can show them off to him. Heh heh. ^___^ Happiness once again, even though, I'm already happy, nontheless.

And that's all. I'm gonna look for a nice flaxmeal recipe for desert tonight.

                    Always

I hope its not just me, but I think its funny that we're all experiencing TOM at the same time LOL - I mean, how wierd is it that all of us joined this thread just 5 days ago? LoL

Heiricka - Shakes are really something that shouldn't be used. They are legal, very technically, but they cause me to stall half the time. Its part of eating all natural, and not processed. That and if you use them to feed your sugar cravings, they are addicting. Personally, they often lead me to wanting something I shouldnt have, so I always try to eat a protein/fat with them if I am stuck in a hard place where its the only thing i have access to eat.

                      Privet - AWESOME!!!!!!

Hillbilly - I cant believe its been 5 days!! The support has been great for me as well.. time goes so fast when you're not thinking that you're the only one in the world who wants a da** brownie and cant do it LoL!! Cant wait to hear what your son has to say!!

Bekka - Thats great!! Glad to hear you had such a good time and things are going to work out the way you want them. Go size 16!!!

                      • Re: For those starting Atkin's on 7/7/2008.

Mornin' all (at least for me).

HEIRIKA (and anyone else interested) - I used to have a small bakery out of my home. I did all the usual stuff, decorated cakes and made stuff for low carb, glutan intolerance, and any allergy that wasn't life threatening. That said, one man came to me for low carb items. He said he had lost 30 lbs so far on Atkins (6 months), lowered his cholesterol, and is now NOT insulin dependent. I took that as proof that Atkins is what it claims to be.

Well, I did it anyway. I weighed myself. First thing in the morning when I get up, so I can compare all the weigh ins equally. Like I said, I can fluctuate several pounds normally. So, with that in mind, I have lost 3-6 lbs. The first time I've been under 160 lb in quite some time. I've been practically obsessed with that number!

I had to cut short last night because DH came to look over my shoulder. He is very skeptical about Atkins and VERY wary of any exchange of info/conversation on the internet. I didn't feel like hearing about it, so I logged off. I explained my reasons for doing it. I told him I didn't get the support/help from him and going here helps. It wasn't a negative conversation. But, sometimes I just need to state things the way I see it. He can be, no IS, a very strong personality (i.e. opinionated, judgemental, stuff-shirted, black and white) but I love him and it works for us! Don't get me wrong, no one has EVER called me meek, mild or tactful for that matter. We've been married almost 16 years and a number of those years have been very volatile. But we have come to a place where we each give and take where needed and are very happy. I once told him that I didn't know that marriage was supposed to be this way. (second time around and raised in dysfunctional family--in other words, no role models) But, I digress. (this kind of info/conversation is what I would prefer him not to see only because I would get lectured about giving too much info out)

BREAKFAST (so far) - 2 hardboiled eggs, 2 TB flaxseed meal hot cereal with 1/2 TB heavy cream. No plans for the rest of the day, but parmesan chicken sounds good (just need to get it out of the freezer)

I just have to relate this--I think it amusing. Two posts ago, I kinda cut it short again. My dog, the male lab, was laying a few feet away and rolled over on to his back. What makes this special is that I taught him to do that for attention. I call it "Bat Dog". He knows he will get lovin' when he does it. Not just some little pets, either. I crawl on top of him, lean down and talk sweet nothings to him. Yeah, he gets lots of pets, too. The other ones now follow suit. The chocolate female ALWAYS come and mooches lovin's. He's a big baby(100 lb worth). I was going to write about this last night, but DH came up on me.

Now, not rushing, but time to go. My hot cereal has cooled off enough to eat!!

                        Later

                        Sorry so long-I ramble

Hi, I started Atkins on Monday as well. I'm very excited I had great success a few years back with the Atkins way and am looking forward to losing this post baby weight. I had a baby boy almost exactly four months ago Monday, I gained an astronomical 65 pounds while preggo, 20 came off with my baby boy but here I am carrying an extra 45 pounds around with me everywhere.

Anyway, I 'm looking forward to succeeding with everyone here on our new goals!!!

                            Good morning! Welcome Mic Mac!

Ok, so I had a rough night last night, which was good in a way because the peanut butter has been eyeing me lately. You all know we've been talking about TOM around here and I had a bad case of PMS for the last 3 or 4 days (prolly partially TOM and Atkins grumpy) so my BF has been getting upset with me. Then last night, he said well since we're getting on each others nerves so much, why dont we see each other every other day instead? Cause he needs space, "and maybe I do too". So after having been more calm yesterday, it was hard for me to hear. Im hoping it was just me being emotional, but it upset me. Even though this is something I've kinda been done with for a while now. I still love him a lot, but he says hurtful things sometimes without realizing it i think. We're coming up on a year anniversary and Im wondering if this is his way of backing off and ending it. He said its not, and i even suggested that why not cut it down to once a week, then not at all? (PMS fo SHo).. So i dont know..

                            Im just kinda bummed.

Im eating onion burgers this morning anyway... what I can eat of them

Nikki!! I'm sorry to hear about what happened with you last night with your boyfriend. I had the same problem with one of my exes because we used to see each other every single day and I just got tired of hanging out with him all the time. It is true that someone needs space and trust me, every other day isn't all that bad, really. There are some couples who work most of the time and only have time to see each other once a week, or even every other week. (That's kinda how it is for me with my job, but I thought ahead for schooling and I'll be able to see my beau once or twice a week. =) ) And that is good enough for me. =) As long as I get to talk to him once a day, I'll be fine because I know he will be thinking about me, as I would be thinking about him. If that makes any sense at all.

Micmac- Congrats on the baby boy!!! ^_^ And welcome to our little group, which is now more like a huge group inside a huge group? Well, good luck and you know where to come if you need any help whatsoever.

Hillbilly- Sorry your DH is that way. =( But if it works for you, then go for it. As long as he doesn't abuse you emotionally, or in any sort of way. My younger brother is judgemental, narrow minded, stubborn, arrogant, etc, and I'm really afraid he's going to end up abusing him girlfriend one day. I'm sure he's already controlling her now and brainwashed her, etc.

I thought I would never wake up this early, but I actually did!! That means I'm heading to the gym with my mom to do water aerobics, instead of me walking the dog today for 20 minutes like I planned. Lol. One hour of excercise in the pool beats 20 minutes walking, I think. =) As long as I don't mess up my left wrist while doing those push up things, which should be easier for me because I'm stronger now. But anyway, yawn yawn yawn. =P I can't eat breakfast til after the pool cause I have to take my thyroid medication and so I have to wait an hour. Ugh, an hour. But I'm hungry now!! lol. Ya, I know, I'm weird. =) Anyway, today will be a nice day, I think. Take care everyone! ^__^

Hillbilly- Dogs correlate commands with phonetic (spelling?) sounds. It kind of surprises me that when you say "bat dog" they don't hear "bad dog" and think they're doing something wrong. I guess it works out ok for your dogs. I just thought of that because i wanted to name my dog Juneau, and my dads friend who is a dog trainer told me that everytime i say its name it will think I'm saying "ju no!", he said in order to keep that name, I'd have to come up with another word for "no" , like "stop", so he doesn't associate his own name with doing something wrong. anyway, I'm going off on a tangent.

Hope everyone is having a great day!
