    Hi :wave

Welcome to Atkins! the most successful, amazing WOL (way of life in the world)

The most important step you ca take to ensure not only successful on going weight loss but improved physical and emotional well being and health is to read the book. Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution or as it's known around here as simply DANDR

This is not an option, it's critical because without the using the book as the tool it was designed for - failure is guaranteed.

The book will help you to understand why and how this WOL (a way of live) Has such a profound change in the way we eat and view ourselves. And it isn't easy it takes work and determination. Having made this great step of coming to the board and posting is wonderful. It's the perfect first step.

If you do have the new version treat it like your friend, you're personal Bible, use it, read it...read chapters that impress you or fascinate you over and over.

The opportunity to reinvent yourself, and to improve your physical and emotional health is right here and right now. You never have to back to that slow death way of eating again - ever.

Atkins isn't a race or Fad diet. Remember it's been around for more than 30 years and has more supportive research to substantiate it than any way of eating in the world. That said we all lose weight at different rates. Can you lose 30 lbs by June? maybe maybe not but I guarantee you this. If you do Atkins the correct way, Your health and energy will improve ten fold and you will lose weight.

If by June you're a few pounds shy of your goal you newfound confidence and self esteem will more than make up for it.

So as Nike says "Just Do It" and never forget, all the support and encouragement you need (and who doesn't?) is right here on this board.

Peter always gives such great advice. But let me add my 2 cents and then someone else can chip in, too.

I think the best menu in the beginning is to just keep it simple. As time goes by, and you get more use to this WOE, there are many places to find low carb recipes. ha has a large recipe and cooking section. The main Atkins website also has many recipes.

Remember that this WOL isn't just about eating meat. You're daily 20 grams of carbs should come from vegetables from the list of acceptable induction foods. So you need to remember to get your vegetables in. Take a multi vitamin without iron. Drink plenty of water, a minimum of 64 ounces, that's very important. Eat something every 6 waking hours. Eat when you are hungry, but only until you are no longer hungry, not stuffed.

I think that you should be aware that during the first few days you might feel kind of icky. It's called induction flu and it's caused by your body detoxing from the carbs that you're use to consuming. Hang in there and stick it out. You will feel so much better in a few days and should have more energy. Don't give in to the evil carb demons!

I don't know if you can lose 30lbs. by June. There are other factors in determining that. Are you male or female? Do you intend to exercise? How much weight do you need to lose in total? How determined are you? I can't say if it can be done, but you can come pretty close. It's all up to you.

Good luck with your weight loss journey. :wave

        Welcome!

My 2 cents worth (your change purse is going to be full!!) is to read the sticky's in the forums.
Sticky's are topics that we found over time we responded to again and again, so they hold a lot of very useful information and are very worth reading. :yes Each forum has their own, and as you look around, take a moment and go through them. Very helpful!

          Welcome

welcome to Atkins. You will find peace, freedom, weight loss and good health here.
          ha

can you lose 30 pounds by june? it would depend on your body and its own personal time table. if you follow induction faithfully for 2 weeks you will know by how much weight you lose in those two weeks
          what your metabolic resistence is.

I personally think it is best not to think of atkins as a quick weight loss scheme but as a permanent lifestyle.

it is really very simple. let your body return to the fat burning
state it was always meant to be and keep it there. the way you do
that is to resolve to never eat high carb frankenfoods again.
not even one bite. follow the induction program to the letter
and it will happen for you.

I wish you success on your journey.
Suffering is necessary until you realize it is unnecessary. Eckhart Tolle
