Re: What am i doing wrong??
Hi there - Just wanted to ask a related question on stir fry - Liv you mentioned that is how you do your veggies. How exactly do you prepare them? (I'm on induction and looking for some good ways to prepare veggies) - Thanks!!! (And barbecuer I agree with the other posts - you are doing great - I'm going to listen to the advice and listen to my measuring tape, not the stupid scale)

Re: What am i doing wrong??
Nice post G. The interesting thing about that study was that it was sponsored by the sugar producers who were/are losing some ground to Splenda. It was basically done to dig up any dirt they could find on the product. And that was what the scientists came up with. It wasn't to bad.Originally posted by Georgiana View PostAs far as I am aware, there is only one study that points to the negative effects of Splenda. The full article is not available online, but you can read the abstract here:
Splenda Alters Gut Microflora and Increases Intestinal P-Glycoprotein and Cytochrome P-450 in Male Rats - Journal of Toxicology and Environmental Health, Part A: Current Issues
The conclusion of the study is that sucralose in quantities of 1.1-11 mg/kg/day reduces the beneficial bacterial microflora in the gut and causes weight gain in rats. I am going to skip forward over the fact that the study was funded by the Sugar Association... In 3 servings of splenda, as recommended in the book, there are 3 g of sweetener, which mean 3000 mg. Of these 1.1% are sucralose, so that means 33 mg. I am relatively close to goal, in kg I weigh 72 (~160 lbs). So to see the changes observed in rats, I would have to eat at least 80 mg of sucralose, which is almost double the quantity one finds in 3 servings.
On the other hand, FDA allows 5 mg/kg/day of sucralose, which for me would mean about 33 servings of Splenda. I'm not going to deny that there are people who think drinking diet soda will make them lose weight so they indulge in this enormous quantity of sweetener, but this is not true for someone doing Atkins.

You should still be ok with the cheese.Originally posted by MotherOfAll View PostBummer.... Ok It is with a heavy heart that I shall remove the splenda from my diet....
What about the cheese?? Can I still snack on my 4oz of cheese a day??
Is it possible to drink TOO MUCH water?? Could I be retaining water instead of sheding it?
XMMWX: I stopped breasfeeding two months ago.
Just watch out for fake sweetners, not because you are on Atkins but just in general.
They are made in labs from artificial means. The human body is not equipped to properly metabolize such substances, and those with optimum metabolic function can break down these sweetners, but unfortunately it gets stored in the fat cells and gets trapped. Causing God only knows what later on down the road.
It can be possible to drink to much water to the point where you are flushing your vitamins and minerals out of your system.
If I remember correctly you should drink 1/2 your weight. So if you weigh for example 200lbs. You should be consuming 100oz of water, and adjust according to your weight loss.

Re: What am i doing wrong??
Hey..Don't feel too bad..We don't mean forever!!! I indulge myself in that flavored water..LOVE IT..you know the fruit 2 O..and I eat sugar free chocolate.especially during that special time we women ALL LOVE! But, when I notice my weight loss is slowing up..I just give it up for a few weeks..If that doesn't work, try checking with your doctor with regards to your thyroid..I was just diagnosed with Hypothyroidism..because of my age (3
and all the hormonal ups and downs of the last few months, (and heredity too!) haha..My thyroid just gave up..THAT slowed my weight loss too! Good luck!! Let us know how it goes and if it works!

Re: What am i doing wrong??
Not only that..( I agree with everything everyone has said up until now..) you are so close to your goal weight that it will not come off the same way. I am only 24 lbs from goal and weight loss has slowed..I still lose about 1-2 lbs a week (if I am lucky)..but, I started out at 220..you were only 131 to begin with..So, you just have to hang in there.
Also, I wanted to repeat what someone up there said..You are eating a bit more vegetables than you should and it seems like you are having alot of "extras" with the splenda, cream, etc. Some people don't do well with extras..The only way I could move beyond a plateau was to get rid of EVERYTHING that was extra for a little bit and just eat meat and vegetables.
Just remember that Atkins isn't a "quick" fix. People who have alot to lose are usually metabolically resistant and when they start this diet lose alot of water weight, etc and it seems like a HUGE loss when it isn't FAT it is water weight. I also had a baby 6 months ago..I weighed 236 when my daughter was born (now weigh 159) but, I was always heavy to begin with. Anyway, I dropped down to 212 within 6 weeks..Mostly from the baby but, also with dieting (Wasn't able to breast feed)..My weight loss was UNEVEN and my Dr. said it is mostly due to hormones and the fluxuations..It really takes up to a year or two for alot of people's body to get back to normal after giving birth. Your thyroid could be stalling you as well..since it regulations all the hormones..
You sound to me to be doing well..especially for the weight you are currently at..the weight loss you describe sounds right. But, you didn't mention if you were breast feeding..If you ARE there is another hormone issue right there.
Anyway..Let me say one more thing..You just had a baby!! Go easy on yourself! Personally, I think you are doing great..

Re: What am i doing wrong??
Yes...but some people are sensative to this. I have seen many use Splenda on Induction and not have great success in dropping inches and pounds.
Once they went through Induction AGAIN w/o using Splenda, the weight melted of off.
If I remember correctly, the first book that came out in the 90's, Atkins did say not to use any type of sugar substitues during Induction, including Splenda.
The newer versions do say you can consume up to 3 packs a day, yes that is true.
But, everyone reacts to this crazy sweetner differently. In fact, new studies have proven that Splenda can actually cause weight gain and cravings the same as aspertame does.

Re: What am i doing wrong??
Splenda is the only safe artificial sweetener that is allowed in induction.. as long she keeps it up to 3 packets per day, it will be ok.

Re: What am i doing wrong??
Congratulations on your excellent job done on induction
Now maybe move to OWL where you can have 3 cups of veg plus another 5 net carbs of them

Re: What am i doing wrong??
Yes you're not doing anything wrong. You can expect to lose about 10% of the weight you're wanting to lose in induction and you are well over that number. So it is all good.
My advice would be to add exercise (if you are not doing it already) to tone up.
And yes you can stir fry. That is how I eat my veggies.
