  • hidden carbs in a hamburger?

Just a quick question. I ordered a hamburger from the deli with turkey on top. I took of the bun. How many carbs do you think was in this? I'm getting paranoid that the hamburger minus the bun might have some hidden carbs????!!! How do you know when your ordering out and are on induction where the hidden carbs are if you cant see the ingrediants???

after i ate it i had a little heart burn like there might have been garlic or onions in it. Im so confused

Hamburgers can contain carbs, if they contain grain-based or legume-based fillers. The most common filler I've seen in commercially made burgers is soybean.

You can always ask the server if the patty is 100% beef (or turkey). Otherwise, you'll can't be 100% sure unless you make it yourself.

Same thing goes for certain deli meats. If the turkey or chicken you eat looks like a real piece of meat, then the chances are the added carbs are minimal to none. If the turkey looks like it's in a round shape or oval shape, then this meat has been processed---chopped up and re-formed. Depending on the brand, this reformed turkey can contain either gelatin or some kind of starch to "hold it together" in it's oval or round shape.

            hamburger

Has anyone put together a quick list of the carb count of popular fast food joints (not everything, just the burgers)?

For example, locally i always go to Checkers because I know they use 100% beef, but their patties are always salty.

I think that I read somewhere that mcdonalds uses soy (which has to have some carbs).

Now that I am thinking about it, maybe the quarter pound double stack at wendy's might be low carb. Maybe something at BK.

            Does anyone have a list?

Basically, I am looking for just the meat and cheese so i can limit my lunch to about 2 or 3 carbs.

boy are you sweating this seasoning might add a carb to your burger. don't forget the onions and garlic you mentioned had carbs inthem too.

You have learned a very valuble Atkins lesson here and I hope you learned it well never ever put anything in your mouth before you ask what the ingredients are and check to see if they are okay for your Atkins phase. By teh time you get backto the board to ask it is too late and the damageis done to your carving control and ketosis should the food not be okay.
SInce your deli makes their own patties you can ask for yours without anythin in the future.

              Happy low carbing.

Like 2Big said, the seasonings probably added a carb to the patty itself. 1 carb, 2 at the most. not 6.

goin2Bgood thank you for your answer.

This lesson is a hard one when you think your doing right by ordering something that shouldnt have carbs in it. Who would have thought that people could mix a hamburger with other things. I just thought all burgers were made equal. Things can get tricky here.

So thank you for putting up with my questions. As you proberly experianced something simmilar when you all first started.
