  • newbie here about to start Induction, Help!!

ha Hi everyone! I'm new to this board, but not to Atkins. I have tried it on and off for two years. So now I'm really trying to get back track with my weight. I am sick of not being able to wear my clothes and not having the energy that i used to. Right now my weight is 214 and I'm 5'6 and my ultimate goal would be 165 ot 170. I am going to start Induction on Sunday and it's going to be pretty hard for me. Number 1, i am obsessed with starches and sugars. If I don't have a candy bar, watch out! lol I have read the book and know all the rules, but it's going to be tough for me. I live on campus and everything is either startches, sugars, fried, and so forth. Also my friends aren't exactly healthy eaters (or drinkers) so it'll be hard, but I'm determined to make this work. Anyone have any pointers for me? :joy

Surrounded by starch and sugar like you are, you need to have a plan. Think ahead about what your going to have for each mean and a snack and then there won't be that critical time when your thinking "whoops, theres nothing to eat"
The first thing you MUST work on is that addition to sugar. I would suggest going cold turkey and just giving it up for two weeks. It can be done
Start a journal down below. Those folks really help

welcome actually Desertthorn meant start one in our journal forum and the folk that journal hop will be visiting you enouraging you and helping you any way they can.

Plan plan plan cause failing to plan is planning to fail. have foods ready to eat and with you at all times so if you are stuck in a class long or doing homework you have something. Know you will be like a junky in detox and you are going to have actual physical symptoms as you convert to a fatburning metabolism. drink lots and lots of water as this is a natural diuretic plan and you will need it. keep rereading your DANDR chapter 11 and know you are only a few days away from being in ketosis and having lots of energy and your appetite suppressed.

DOn't look at it as I can't have candy look at it as I can have and list all the high fat stuff you can have on this plan you can't on another plan. check the recipe section for induction friendly stuff

and lastly never ever put anything in your mouth that you don't know if it is acceptable for your phase of Atkins and the carb count for it.

          Happy low carbing.

Allow me to add that you must tell your friends/roomies that you are going on Atkins and to please not tempt you with sugar/carb foods. Post a list of the acceptable Induction foods on your fridge so your friends will know what you are eating.

Also, you can try to enjoy some things they are eating like pizza. You can eat the toppings off the pizza and feel like you are part of the fun.

You can do this!!!! Try to post a pic of yourself when you were slim (if you have one). Keep your eye on the PRIZE!! Think about all the compliments you will get, think about how wonderful you will feel after Induction, think about the clothes you will fit into, whatever keeps you going.

Good luck, you can do it!!! :icondance ha

Well, I was in college not too long ago. Living on campus food can be hard. But there should be plenty of choices for you in the cafeteria. Grilled chicken is a college staple. My college had a late night deli in the cafeteria. I'd order a HUGE hero with all the toppings. Then when I got back to my room, I'd slide it all off the bread onto a plate and stick it in the microwave to melt the cheese. . . witha little honey mustard, it was a staple! AND sooo good.
What gets me through atkins, is thinking about all the foods I CAN eat, instead of all the temptations. It really helps!
              Good Luck!

That's perfect except for the honey mustard, so be careful! :yes

actually, i think the advice about the pizza is off-base. too much cheese is not good. Try and stock your fridge with atkins friendly stuff and make all your own meals for the first two weeks. Two weeks of not eating out with friends will not kill you and then you will actually see results (you said you know the rules, so follow them).

Once you see yourself losing weight, THEN you will have the will power to eat out with friends. You will be able to say, "I want to lose weight more than I want to eat that plate of pasta."

Eat in for the 14 day induction, then the temptations will not eb so bad.

Don't forget to drink tons of water to flush the protein.

I was actually referring to a situation where she may be living with many other folks and they order in pizza. I was letting her know that she did not have to feel left out. As long as she is careful not to overeat especially if she had cheese at another time during the day, then I see no problem with having a couple slices of toppings.

I think it is important not to alienate yourself when you change your WOE, and Atkins is definitely a good eating plan when you don't want to alienate yourself or be alienated.

                      JUST IN CASE

FYI, THERE IS A PRINT OUT OF THE ACCEPTABLE FOODS LIST IN THE STICKY AT THE TOP OF THIS FORUM PAGE. ALSO INSTEAD OF IN BETWEEN MEAL (HIGH-CARB/SUGAR) SNACKS, TRY STRING CHEESE, BOILED EGGS, DILL PICKLES, OLIVES, PORK SKINS, ETC. JUST WATCH YOUR PORTIONS OF COURSE! ALSO YOU MAY BE SURPRISED TO FIND THAT WHEN YOU START COOKING YOUR INDUCTION MEALS, YOUR FRIENDS WILL WANT A TASTE :yes (I HAD THIS PROB WITH THE FIANCE'--HE ALWAYS WANTS THE HIGH CARB FOODS, THEN WHEN I FIX MINES, HE TALKS ABOUT HOW GOOD IT LOOKS????)
