  • Nervous about moving from Induction

    Hey everyone,

I dont have alot of weight to lose (20 pounds total) and I have already lost approx 10lb on induction - trouble is I am 'scared' of moving on, I dont want to put on weight and I dont want to slow down my weight loss - does anyone have any words of advise before I go mad!

    Thanks,
    Gemma

Re: Nervous about mocing from Induction

You will definitely not add weight from a few extra carbs worth of vegetables. You are more likely to have trouble with later rungs like nuts where portion control is difficult. Do watch out with those. I am kind of parked on the berry rung.. strawberries seem to be my 'whooshie' food and I am not the only person with that experience. That is one of the glories of OWL, adding things in gradually you find what is particularly helpful for you.

It is called ONgoing Weight loss.. because the weight loss keeps on going! don't be scared and congrats on your success so far!

          Hi!

I am worried about OWL myself because I don't really understand it. I've been considering restarting induction. Any thoughts on doing 4 weeks of induction instead of two?

Re: Nervous about moving from Induction

I just started OWL this week and I don't think I am the poster child for it, since I have gained 2 pounds but I am wearing jeans that I couldn't even zip up 2 weeks ago, or 5 days ago, so I am ignoring what the scale says

The first rung is adding more veggies, pretty easy. I am worried about the berry rung because I love berries and I think I could easily overdo it.

If you only have 20 pounds to lose, I would NOT do another 2 weeks of induction, extended induction is for those who have a lot of weight to lose.

Did you read Chapter 14 in the book? It explains all you need to know about Induction. There are also several sticky threads in the OWL forum, which summarize what the book says.

Dr. Atkins wrote that those people who may benefit from extending the Induction period are those who are metabolically resistant or have a lot to lose (75-100+ lbs). To determine your degree of metabolic resistance, check the table on page 158 of DANDR.

Staying longer in Induction if you are not metabolically resistant and have little to lose is in your disadvantage because
              1. It increases the chances that you stall, as I have seen happening to many folks around here (myself included).
              2. It increases the chances that you cheat, since you will probably get bored with the foods allowed during Induction.
              3. It cheats you of the vitamins and minerals found in the OWL foods.
Is there any reason why you want to restart Induction?
