  • Ready? Set>>>GO!!

I am officially beginning tomorrow. :yikes I have been weaning the past several days. The only real concerns I have are iced tea and chocolate. I have convinced myself mind over matter. I am going to the store this evening so if there is something I MUST have from any of your experiences, by all means...add to my grocery list!
I will tell you, I am grateful for this board, I have already been enlightened many times. You are amazing people who have done so well on this WOE/WOL. Totally impressive and encouraging...Thanks!
Wish me luck..you will probably be hearing from me. Oh, one other thing..I dont have a scale...dont really want to buy one right now. Should I measure or just go by the way my clothes fit. My weight is what it was at the Dr last time...3 weeks ago. :confused

Good Luck! (Although you don't really need it.)

As for the scale, I would just stick with the number from the doctor's office. And use it as a standard for your weightloss. Do you go often enough to weigh yourself on a regular basis? Weighing only there may prevent you from becoming a slave to your scale. But, you may want to check in after your 14 days to see what your loss was.
Out of curiousity, is your Dr. supportive of Atkins, or will you even tell him?

      about my Dr.

Yes, I did talk with my Dr about Atkins and he is supportive. My cholesteral(sp) is a little high, everything else is in check as far as that goes. It is kind of strange because things check out but here I am overweight, I run out of breath going up stairs...not to mention miserable. Anyhow, he told me go for it, he has studied it and sees nothing wrong with it.
Several of my friends are on phenteremine right now and dropping weight like mad...my Dr said Atkins is someting you can do forever, those pills are not...I didnt ask for them, but we did discuss options. He wont even prescribe them.
I dont really go to the Dr often enough to weigh but I will figure something out. Maybe I will go ahead and buy some.
By the way..why do you say I dont need luck? Is this that great? Thanks for your input and your picture is very pretty.

:hug Thanks, you're so sweet. And no you won't need luck if you follow the book by the letter. They only reason I have not lost more is stubborn laziness and not following the book to a T. Cleochatra has followed it close and has a 100 pound loss for all her hard work. Check out the success stories on the board and you will see that Dr. Atkins wasn't some kind of super genius, he just realized that if we would learn to eat our vegetables and keep crap out of our mouths we would all be healthier. My only other advice is to not compare yourself with your phenteremine taking friends. I don't know anything about that drug, but your doctor is right about it not being a permanent solution.
Remember to exercise and have fun with induction, (it's really not all eggs and bacon).

            Hi! :wave

Glad to see you are starting Atkins and let me tell you, that it is a great experience. Be prepared to learn a lot about food, nutrition, your body and yourself. As for the Phentermine....you are not missing anything but a severe chance of having heart valve problems; which is the side effect of taking Phentermine. I used to take it and was I ever sorry. I lost 50 lbs---50 very temporary pounds. Those pills screwed up my system and my nerves so bad for months after I stopped taking them. I was lucky to have stopped taking them before I found out the problems they can cause and I am not sure even know I am still out of the woods. What you will find out from your friends, is that once they stop taking it, the weight comes right back; and then some. Not to mention you cannot take it forever because of the side effects. Atkins, on the other hand, is something you can do forever and the only side effects are happiness and health. Your doctor is smart for not prescribing any to you; go with his guidance, he is a doctor after all!

About the scale, don't be afraid of having one and using it! I know that it can be hard to see the numbers but I would encourage you to get one so you at least know when you have losses further down on the plan and so you can do your 15th day weigh in. Hey, I weighed 410 pounds at my highest weight and I couldn't evenfind a scale that could weigh me! Now, at 330 lbs, it is still not a joy to see that number but I see it knowing I am going down and not up! :nod But if you are still a little gun-shy, I would suggest you find an outfit, pants, etc. in your closet that you can't wear anymore and try it on every week to gauge progress and use your measurements and how your current clothes are fitting. Good luck and don't give in to your cravings no matter what! :joy

The measuring tape is more of your friend than the scale. When I first started this WOE about a year ago, there was an entire month that the scale didn't move at all. Luckily I had taken my beginning measurements, and that month I didn't lose any pounds, I did lose 8 inches!! That month was the month people started commenting that I was losing weight. My body was changing even though the scale was not.
