  • Confused..need to be clarified pls

    Hi,

I havent yet got my book but I have got my important pages printed out. I started induction today and for today my carbs hv a total of 15. I planned day 2 and day 3, having 3cups from salad veggie and 1cup from veg( high carbs) for each day. But total carb dont meet at least 15(including cheese) is it ok??

Is it possible to have 3cups of salad veggie and 2 cups of Higher carb veggies to meet up with 15-20 carbs??
Or is it Illegal ?? Just want to know so that I could plan the rest of the induction days..

I guess another option is adding olives..isn't it??

During Induction, you should be having 3 cups of vegetables, not 4. At most one of these 3 cups can come from the "Other Vegetables" list.

Adding to what I've said above. You don't have to reach 20 net carbs. In fact, few of us do. The book says we should eat not more than 20 net carbs. So 10-15 is also okay. Just be careful to get over half of your net carbs from vegetables.

You can add olives if you want, but it's not necessary. In case you don't have this printed out, you can have 10-20 olives per day.

Good for you to be planning. Many fail by not doing this.

Wait a little before running away... Are you counting net carbs or total carbs?

That is a bit low. There are plenty of veggies out there that have a few carbs in there and that are good for you. Don't just eat lettuce and leaves.

you can eat a salad with 1 meal then add a higher carb vegetable for another meal -- broccoli, pumpkin, spaghetti squash -- look at the "other vegetable list" for the higher carb ones.

So you did your exercise. Planning, exercising... That's very good.

                1. I am counting the net carbs. I got the values of the net carbs from this site
                Acceptable Foods List
                Hope it is correct.
The carb count is correct, but the foods and other information aren't the same as in Dr. Atkins' New Diet Revolution (2002 ed.), which is the book we go by at ADBB. Here is the list of foods acceptable during Induction, as it appears in DANDR: http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...induction.html

And here are the Rules of Induction, again from DANDR:

I should be counting my net carbs right?? or am i wrong ??
You are right. It's net carbs you should be counting. A note here, since you are in Italy. The carbs listed on the label are net carbs, not total carbs. So if you buy a food and it has, let's say, 5 g carbohydrate and 2 g dietary fiber written on the label, then those 5 g are net carbs, not total carbs. For the same product in the US they would write 7 g carbohydrate and 2 g dietary fiber, but in Europe the labeling is different.

                2. Yesterday I was, planning for a week and somedays net carbs(salads & veggie) add upto sbout 11.8 or 9. BUT some days it adds up to only 2.4 or 3 ?? is it ok..??
You should get over half of your net carbs from vegetables. Therefore, eating only lettuce (i.e. 3 cups of lettuce) or similar will force you to reduce the amount of other carbohydrate-containing foods you are eating. For example, if you have 2.4 net carbs one day, then at least 1.3 g of these should come from vegetables. This leaves you with maximum 1.1 g from other sources -- eggs, cheese, spices, cream, olives, avocado, etc. This is why it is advisable to choose more nutritious vegetables, so that you can enjoy a larger variety in your meals.

Re: Confused..need to be clarified pls

I went through all your comments. I do spread the veggies with higher carbs..but I end up those values.Anyway, i will get a higher carb veg next week. Thanks a lot.

                  Georgiana :
Yes I do exercise moderately. I go for a fast walk for about 45minutes 6 times a week. And whenever time permits , lets say about 3/4 times a week I use my staionary bike for 30minutes(moderate).

I note down only the carb counts from that site. But the "foods acceptable during Induction" list and the "rules of induction", I had gotten from the site you had stated.

Ok, noted regarding the european label, and thanks to that method it is easier.

Noted about the carbs, i should note down olives on my shopping list next time.

                  Thanks a lot
