      I guess you could but most people would think you were insane
      I see people put a donut in their mouth these days and I think "You're cracy you're actually going to eat that) I can see them think the same thing when I pull out my little box of beef and cheese.

        I had the 24-hr nausea as well. Friend of mine who started at the same time got it as well. Mine ended with no mass exit of food, hers did not. I was recently reading up on some of the really high fat diets they fed to some children for epilepsy treatment and one side effect they noticed was that some did have nausea and vomiting from the increased fat in the beginning.

        When you think about it, going from decades of one energy system carbs for fuel to fat for fuel, it is a wonder that there are only a few days of ickiness.

          @ Liv, most people think I’m insane anyway . The nausea comes and goes. A friend says it may be ketosis related but I have made an appointment with my doctor on Tuesday to make sure I’m not dying (unashamed hypochondriac here). I actually understand and envy those eating donuts. With patience and regularity I’ll get to where you are one day but right now I WANT A FREAKING DONUT (this is not good, not good - why am I craving a donut all of a sudden?)

            Glad you are going to the doctor just in case.
            Not all doctors will understand the diet though. My doctor is not against it but keep telling me I should just eat sensible. I am thinking "typical advice from a person who has never been obese"

              My mother does that. I find it patronizing and minimizing not to mention unnerving ). My doctor knows I’m doing Atkins and has a “whatever rocks your boat” approach as long as my blood work comes back ok. We'll see what he says today after I tell him of my weight in.

                I would find it "patronizing and minimizing" as well. You're in charge of what you put in your body and just the fact that you're taking care of yourself is a HUGE plus compared to how most people go through life...

                Do you feel like crap? How long until you get back new blood work? Have you lost weight?

                Don't you feel that you're getting balance on Atkins? Are you in Induction / just curious what type of diet you've been having...

                Best of luck to you- it sounds like you're in the right place with what you're doing.

                  Hi Pete,
                  I’m going to the doctor today, guess I’ll have blood work back by the end of the week. I’m on day 13 of Induction and I’ve lost 35 pounds which freaks me out a little (there is a voice in the back of my mind that says: “that’s not healthy weight loss”). I’m sure I must have made a mistake in the initial weight in.
                  So far, I’m feeling great. The nausea comes and goes. Someone told me it’s ketosis-related so I try to suck it up and keep doing whatever I’m doing at that moment.

                    Are you following the Atkins diet i.e. 20 carbs or less a day and getting 60% fat and 30% protein (or thereabouts)? That's an awful lot of weight you've lost there, awesome. Gosh I would think by now you would be over any ketosis-related side effects. I get them every three days or so I'd say...

                      You are right Pete that is a lot of weight. I would be a bit concerned about that too. I am still worrying that you are not eating much.
                      But good job going to the doctor. Let us know how it goes.

                        @liv and @pete, the doctor’s appointment went well. Nausea can be a number of things that have nothing to do with Atkins or it can be ketosis. I won’t get the blood work back till tomorrow or Monday…. and I’m starting Induction again tomorrow.

                            Hi, there! I'm a newbie and on days 3 and 4 I felt like total poop. I think it was a combination of ketosis and trying desperately to drink a lot of water. Is it possible to drink TOO much water?? LOL I was feeling very nauseous last night, and couldn't eat a thing. This morning I woke up, took my vitamins, and felt much better.

                            Just something some of us have to go through, I guess.

                              i think if i dont eat enough fat i feel nausea too high protein and to low fat can cause that

                              but also if i eat a giant amount of fat like drinking greace i get nausea as well


                              best i find is to eat 65% fat , 30% protein , 5% carbs

                              dont drink fat greace your body cant absorb all that liquid fat at once and it will make you nausea but if you dont want to toss it away just spread it out through out the day haveing just a tiny bit every 4 or so hours

                              other fats like eggs , chicken skin , fat on steaks i can eat lots of with out geting nausea

                                You'd have to drink whole bottles in one go, so you'd have to be on a mission... Try to spread your water throughout the day. How much water are you drinking, by the way?

                                The lack of energy during the first days of Induction happens because your body needs some time to create the carrier chemicals and the extra mitochondria needed to efficiently switch to a new source of fuel --- fat, instead of glucose.

                                The nausea some experience during the first few days is related to this. As your body is transitioning from glucosis to lipolysis, it will desperately use every bit of glucose it can find, trying to oppose change; this can cause a low blood sugar. At the same time, you get a bunch of ketones in your blood, ketones that your body is not yet good at using, and this lowers your serum pH (lower pH --> higher acidity). These things can all make you feel "like total poop". But after the transition phase is complete, you will definitely feel much better.
