  • Day 1 of induction is COMPLETE!

Ok so I need to know how I did, what I need to change, how to tweek a few things (like cutting down on the salt..I dont add it to anything)

First off... HI!!! Im Nikki. Im 30 and a stay at home/self employed mom of a 3 year old boy. Ive been overweight for the first 30 years of my life, I dont want to be overweight for the next 30! I have no health problems other than obesity. Blood Pressure and cholesterol are perfect, even a little on the low side. No diabetes..my mother and grandmother are type 1 though. I decided this weekend, after being on a low cal diet for the past 3 weeks (losing 20lbs), that I wanted to do atkins. Im not a big fan of bread or pasta but love fruit and baby carrots so thats the only part that is rough. I realized my life was revolving around sugar and unhealthy snacks. I am an all or nothing kinda person, as long as Im on a program that specifies what I can and cant have...within reason...Im good to go! My roommate, who has done atkins before with great success, is doing it with me. Ok I think thats all I can think of saying.. wow that was long hah.

So today was day 1. Here are my end of the day percentages.
    Carbs 5.89% 27g -7g fiber = 20 net carbs
    Protein 31.21% 142g
    Fats 62.9% 127g

Are those the right percents? What should I tweek?

My sodium level was crazy 5293mg I need to cut that in half.

    Some more info::
I drink about 160 oz of plain filtered water a day/7 of my 23 oz water bottles. Sometimes a little more. I walk at least 30 min a day at a pace over 2mph. I DONT drink diet soda and sometimes have stash or bigelow green tea without any sweetener.

Here is my plate on livestrong

    devi's Profile | LIVESTRONG.COM

I have been tracking for almost a month now and went down from 332lbs lb to 311s and back up to 314, which is what I am at now. I wasnt eating enough calories and fell off the wagon a few times.

I would like to lose 100lbs in the next year.

I just need a little guidance. I am buying "the" book on Thursday.

congrats to anyone who made it thought this incredibly long post haha I just wanted to make sure I didnt leave anything out.

Re: Day 1 of induction is COMPLETE!

Well congrats and good luck on the diet.

That sausage doesn't appear to list ingredients. Make sure there are no hidden sugars or fillers like dextrose/maltodextrin/etc. and preferably no nitrates.

You might be better off with full fat feta and another whole egg instead of egg beaters as it will probably have less carbs but it looks ok as is, just a suggestion.

Check the mayo for sugar in the ingredients. Remember .5 grams and under can be listed as zero in the nutrition information so check the ingredients also.
If it doesn't have any sugar I might have to go try that kind. =)

Make sure there isn't starch in the cheese if it is shredded. They use it to keep it from sticking sometimes.

Does the pepperoni have maltodextrin or dextrose? My Hormel did and I had to return it though I'm sure they make many different kinds.

I only saw servings and not ounces of cheese but make sure it is under 3 to 4 ounces.

Check the Caesar for hidden carbs also like earlier. No sugar,dextrose,etc... I'd like to know if that one is safe as well as I have been making my own and I'd prefer a premade style. Who sells Great Value anyways? I know I have seen it before.

Lastly, again, check the bacons for sugars.

Anyone have any comments or corrections?

So I gained 2lbs over night. So I must be doing something horribly wrong. I checked ingredients and the pepperoni has dextrose. The Caesar dressing has molasses and corn syrup (Im guessing that is bad) I didnt buy the dressing my roommate had it and convinced me that it was ok since it says 0 carbs. blah. I looked at every single package of bacon at walmart and fred meyers and each one had sugar in the ingredients, she said it was ok...is there one that doesnt? I got the sausage instead cause it didnt have sugar in the ingredients. I had bought 4 4 packs of the shakes to have as breakfast to alternate with eggs. Because the Atkins.com website had that in the induction menu. But then hearing it here everyone says not to drink them. Well Im having one for breakfast cause Im super dizzy and cant figure out what is safe to eat. The cheese isnt shreaded but I have to cut the feta out cause it has too much sodium, going to go through and cut out the things that have a lot of sodium cause I can tell Im retaining water a little and that could account for the gain. Im not giving up...just gotta tweek. Im also taking a vitamin daily. Sorry for the typos, Im feeling funny this morning. Thanks for your reply!

It could just be water weight from all the sodium like you said. Try to cut down on salt, keep up on water, and give it a few days.

The funny feeling could be you burning off your glycogen supply, which is necessary to get into ketosis. You just have to push through that. You might feel weird for two or three days(Note: I am not a doctor and if it gets too bad you should probably see one).

If you are one of the people that digests sugar alcohol as a carb, that shake might have undone what you have burned off so far. I'd say don't touch them again for two weeks if you can. What made you think you had to have one as opposed to the eggs this morning if you knew they could be bad for you?

I just needed a quick fix, as bad as that sounds. I really really think that the atkins.com website needs to change their menu to not include the shakes and bars, are they JUST out to make money? ---> Two Week Meal Plan
I am one of the lucky people that doesnt have to run out the door in the morning to go to a day job and I should have no excuse to make a good breakfast usually. I think I may make a fritata (however that is spelled) and cut it up and refrigerate it so I can have that as a smarter *quick fix*, hind sight is 20/20.
