  • Question - Re: Veg/Carbs

Before you ask, I've read the book more than a few times.

My question is about the 20 gram carb count during the day.

If I count the 2 cups salad, and one cup veggies per day, plus usually 2 - 3 oz. of cheese, I'm no where near 20 grams carb.

How do you get them all in without overeating on veggies?

I never could either. But if you get your veggies in that's what is important. Some veggies have more carbs than other, like onions and tomatoes so make sure your getting a good variety.

      Re: Question - Re: Veg/Carbs

I think there are two ways of looking at this - and you find both interpretations floating around
One is that you must eat 20 carbs and therefore at least 11 veggie carbs - the people who argue this tend to want to ignore the cup advice and just concentrate on getting in their veggie net carbs. It is fine if you want to do it like this but make sure you weigh and measure your veggies and keep an eye on your portion sizes

Then there are those (and I am one of them) who thinks that the important to eat 3 cups and even if that does not add up to x carb numbers (but most daily carbs should come from veggies). So on induction I may just eat 14 carbs a day - but to me that is fine as long as I ate 3 cups of veggies and at least 50% of my carbs that day were from veggies.

The difference is not all that important. Just decide what you want to do and settle in on that.

        Re: Question - Re: Veg/Carbs

I too do as Liv and for induction would aim for 3 cups of veg (2 from the salad list and 1 from the 'other' list) choosing some of the higher carb ones rather than just plain old lettuce (aka chewy water )

It is in your interst if you like to have cheese, eggs, cream and sweetener to try and get those veg carbs fairly high so that you can have a decent amount of non-veg carbs within your 'up to 20 net carbs, most of which are vegetables' as Dr Atkins suggested.

The recent vegetable challenge thread (link in my signature) will show you how other members achieved 12-15 net carbs from vegetables on induction while sticking to the 'up to 3 cups' rule
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!
