I am going to start induction very soon, in fact I am doing my shopping and cooking tomorrow (recipes okay for freezing). I live alone so I need to just get rid of anything in my kitchen that isn't going to be part of my life. When I come home from a 13 hour shift, I don't want to have to find willpower to not cheat because I'm "tired". My new moto-If it ain't here, it won't be tempting me". I know to throw out the white sugar and pasta but what about spices and sauces and other stuff.

Re: In the kitchen-What all do I need to throw out
Spices are fine. Avoid those mixes that have sugar added (read the ingredients).
Some dressings are fine, others aren't. If you check the Acceptable Foods List, you will see what Dr. Atkins said about them.

I think you will find a lot has to go. Especially if it is pre prepared stuff - because sugars and carbs are in there. That is a really good thing to do. There have been times when I have thought if I only did not have that in my house I would be fine ....

This is wonderful that you're cleaning out the kitchen. Even now I occasionally have a "moment" that I am so glad nothing is around to tempt me.Originally posted by tulsanurse1 View PostI live alone so I need to just get rid of anything in my kitchen that isn't going to be part of my life. Another great benefit as you start eating real foods only is that you have more space in your kitchen cabinets. I'm able to put my new egg cooker and other things up there now as it's not filled with boxes of crapola.
p.s. my fridge on the other hand is full of veggies and other foods.

Frozen dinners got to go too.
Empty the bread box
the cookie jar
give away the sugar and syrups.
the root veggies are off limits for up to 10 weeks so if they will sprout by then give them away too.
ice creams frozen desserts
powdered creamers
chocolate
candy
grains
flours
noodles rice
the fresh and canned fruit
if your local pantry won't take open containers check with your church or neighbors too.by the book atkinseer

Re: In the kitchen-What all do I need to throw out
My daughter, who is having a rough time, came over last night and took basically EVERYTHING out of my kitchen. Pantry is bare, Refrigerator is almost bare, and cabinets (except for spices without sugars) are bare. Feels good. I have to go get a battery for my scale today so I can see how light I am, lol. I plan to finish my recipe/shopping list this morning. Using "Linda's Recipes" and some of the recipe's here that are allowable. Once I get home, I am going to cook, portion, and freeze so that I don't have any excuses for cheating. I get to go buy a food processor so I'm pretty excited about that. Also going to purchase some storage containers, so if you have any ideas on which ones are best, that would be great. Today is the beginning of a long journey filled with many successes!Last edited by tulsanurse1; January 14, 2010, 06:11 AM.MiniGoal 1-240

Re: In the kitchen-What all do I need to throw out
Have a wonderful journey.
Your pantry will fill up with good whole foods that is better for you to eat in the long run. I love how you have decided to cook ahead. That is a key for many I think.

Re: In the kitchen-What all do I need to throw out
I got a bunch of Glad and Ziploc storage containers in various sizes. I get the square and rectangular ones as they stack well in the fridge and freezer. Also picked up some others at my local dollar store for cheapo.Originally posted by tulsanurse1 View PostAlso going to purchase some storage containers, so if you have any ideas on which ones are best, that would be great.
