  • Drugs with sucrose :-(

    Hi

My GP prescribed me tablets which I have been taking for the last coupile of days. Only just looked at ingredients and they contain sucrose arrrrggghh. Will this affect my diet? Is this why after being on the diet nearly a week and still not in ketosis?

    Thanks

You can ask your doctor to change your medication.

Are you losing weight? Are you losing inches?

You wrote in another thread that you are hungry. Your current medication probably has something to do with that.

      Hi Georgina

Ive been on the tablets since Thursday and on my diet since last Sunday. I was always hungry before the tablets, so dont think thats the cause. I only have to take them until Monday. I havent weighed myself yet so dont know if Ive lost weight. Im not in Ketosis. Although my stomach is flatter so Im assuming ive lost weight.

      Thanks

Are you using Ketostix? You can be in ketosis without changing their color, because there might be ketones in your blood, but no acetoacetate excreted in urine. Ketostix only measure the concentration of excess acetoacetate spilled over in urine.

How much sugar is in those tablets?

Ive just looked at the ingredients agains and its lactose not sucrose as I first said !! It is one of the 'other' ingredients right at the end. It doesnt say how much.

Sandra, some of us never see a change in colour on those pesky sticks so don't worry about it too much. Are you experiencing any other of the signs of ketosis?

The sugar in the pills might have made a difference to your progress, but if they were medically necessary then you had no option but to take them

Next time maybe ask your doc if there are any non-sugar ones you can have instead. There are many people who cannot have sugar so there are usually alternatives available.

the other ingredeints in the pills are the fillers and binders so they can make a pill out of the drug. they are in every pill. there are other fillers but if you are taking your prescribed dose the amount of carbs you are getting is minimal. unless you are lactose intolerant it should not be an issue for your atkins.

some meds will effect blood glucose controls as a side effect so alway make sure your meds are okay for diabetics to avoid that issue.

                  >>its lactose>>

                  It's still a sugar.

That being said, I wouldn't worry too much about it.

I suspect your issues are with what you're eating ... which is all in your other threads.

did you know that being ill can cause your immune system to cause fluid weight gain as it fights the infection and cause you to be hungry cause your body needs fuel to fight the infection? that could be the reason you are not dropping the scale weight.
