Before anyone says anything bout me saying "the way things were before", let it be known that my eating habits were never the cause of my weight gain. My weight gain was due to nearly being killed in Iraq, being bed ridden for nearly 2 years and on lots of medication (one had a side effect of weight gain, can't remember the name but it was to help me be able to eat without being sick right away).
First off Thank you for your service in Iraq

I know you think you can do it with exercise but at some point your body will not be able to do the same amount of exericse it did before either because of a life style change or just wear and tear. I know I thought I was going to hit the gym forever and eat my ATKINS maintnenace at 115+ net carbs and for a yr it worked great, but then life hit me in the face not as bad as it did you but enough that 2-3 hours a day in the gym working out was not an option. As the result of the loss of my gym time I had to cut my carbs back to 45 net to maintain with just walking and resistance training just 3 days for only 30 min. And that worked great for another 3 yrs but then I hurt my shoulder and lost the ability to use my right arm to lift or pull anything for 6 months so again the carbsd got cut back.

If I was going a high carb eating plan like you are planning to do then I would have had to drop my cals a serious amount both times and be a misrible plain rice cake eater instead of a pumpkin cheese cake eater.

Work your atkins all the way to your goal weight climbing the carb ladder and see what your Atkins maintnenace looks like before you say you need to go back to your old way of eating. with 115+ carbs I could have eatten a lot of what your old diet looked like I'd bet. Maybe your CCLL will be even higher then mine was.

In the very first chapter of the DANDR 2002 version (not sure if everyone's will have the same layout, page #'s, etc) on page 4 I quote Dr. Atkins as saying...

"What I am going to show you is not just a way to lose weight, but a way to eat for the rest of your life so you can be slim and healthy and stay that way. For too many people, the word diet implies not an approach to eating for a lifetime, but a two-months-on, ten-months-off weight loss game that they play with themselves -- year after year. That is not what this book is about! I believe this so strongly that from now on I'll speak not of the Atkins Diet, but of the Atkins Nutritional Approach or "doing Atkins" or even just "Atkins." "

This really rang a few whistles in my head when I re-read it recently so that's why I knew where to find it. I am determined, though I may make a few mistakes, to make this a way of eating so that I can stop this on-again, off-again roller coaster. I used to have a great metabolism like the original poster here obviously has, but after years of yo-yo dieting, my metabolism is almost worthless. This is the point that many here are trying to make. I am hoping that you understand that those that seem to be harsh, are really trying to help you in the long run of it. They just get so many of the same or similar postings of people who are 'not really' doing Atkins, or who are on again off again (like I used to be) and I am sure it gets frustrating repeating themselves.

I used to have them posting similar posts to myself once upon a time, and I understand how you feel. But maybe, someday, you will understand...Like I did. They do mean well, or they wouldn't do it at all.
      Good Luck!
