I thought Atkins would solve all my weight, hunger and craving problems.
I was really excited about it and thought it would be very easy to me. Plus in theory, the science behind it sounds very correct.
I only lasted a few days on induction twice, and i'm not even sure if I reached ketosis. I did get blinding migraines a few days into it though.
But I kept having to scrutinize ingredients in everything, and I didn't realize that so many things have traces of sugar in them (mayo, sausages, cream cheese, etc). I don't want to keep throwing things out because of that.
Plus I thought eating the amount of meat and eggs and butter and olive oil that I was eating would keep me full, but I still found I was hungry.
Also, I found it quite difficult to make meat flavorful without the use of bbq sauces. My city does not have any place to buy sugar-free sauces, and anything that is sugar-free has aspartame in it. So that makes it quite hard.
I also was constantly wondering whether or not I was keeping myself at 20 grams of carbs daily. I kept thinking "If I add these two lettuce leaves and this one tbsp of cream will I be over 20 grams?" "If I put 2 packets of Splenda in my decaf tea will I still be able to have that chunk of green pepper in my salad?"
Finally, I have to face this. My heritige is of the East Coast Canadian sort. We are a people who make fish hash with white potatoes and who ate slices of fresh homemade bread wth butter and molasses on the way to school and who enjoy carrots and peas with our Turkey at Christmas and who's mothers made prize-winning pies and brownies. When I was growing up I ate these things and I never ever developed a weight problem until I went away to college and became addicted to fast food and became sedentry.
So maybe the thing for me to do is just try and get as much exercise as I can, stop with the fast food, and cut down on the really bad carbs.
Kudos to everyone on here who has had success with Atkins, but perhaps you are all made of stronger stuff than I.
Good luck to all that are sticking with it, but I'm going to bow out.
Ultrachic, Atkins failure.

Goodness gracious---your body needs time to adjust to a new eating plan, ridding itself from crap food, etc. Correct me if I am wrong, but I believe any new weight loss plan introduced to a person gives you a headache (if your are prone to them) when you cut back on sugar, caffeine, and high carb snacks/foods. It is a sugar withdrawal. I got a headache starting WW every time.
and time to adjust. My first two weeks I was on this board asking so many questions trying to figure it all out. Now, this is a "natural" way of eating for me.
I am sure you are strong enough to get up and running. Use the tools, fitday, recipe links, induction rules and all that good stuff above in the FORUMS section. And ask for help. And keep asking. But you have to help yourself, too. Hang in there for a while, educate yourself with all aspects of the eating plan and WOL, and use the tools. I LOVE
