  • Newbie Needing Help with Menu

Hi everyone. I am new to this, on Day 3 of induction and from reading up on the board, I thought I'd enter in my Day 1 into Fitday to see how I was doing. I was surprised to find that although I never felt hungry and ate 6 smaller meals that day, I only got in 1,125 calories of which fitday said 7% was from carbs (25 total carbs, 18 net carbs), 31% from protein and a whopping 61% from fat. Does that sound right?!

    Below is my menu:

    B: 2 eggs, 2 bacon - 2 carbs
    S: 1 oz cheese - 1 carb
    L: steamed asparagus and broccoli with a tomato/mozzarella salad - 11 carbs
S: decaf coffee w/ 2 Splenda and 2 oz half and half - 5 carbs
D: gyro meat with 1/2 green pepper and raw onions - 3 carbs
    S: 6 turkey slices w/ 1/8 cup of guacamole - 4

100 oz of water throughout the day plus a multivitamin.
No exercise today, which will NOT be a habit.

I think lunch was probably too light, but I forgot the one I packed and I got what I knew was safe at the place my coworkers went.

I also (now) know that should have been heavy cream and I should severely limit coffee and cream intake, though it was decaf.

Any suggestions would be great. Thanks in advance!

The only thing that I see is the only protein/fat combo your getting in your lunch is the mozzarella. That might cause sugar spikes. You may want to take some of you turkey and add it or some hard boiled eggs.
Did you plug it into fitday to check the carb count. FitDay - Free Weight Loss and Diet Journal

      Thanks for the input, Desertthorn!

Anyone else have ideas? I want to make sure I'm not doing this wrong.

How come your lunch has 11 carbs? It sounds like a lot.
Remember to eat your veggies with some fat.
Rule for veggies is: 2 cups from the salad list, one cup from the other list

The other think is to watch for hidden harbs. Your gyro meat and the sliced turkey are usually the kind of processed meat that have a lot sugars or starched in. so you have to read the list of ingredients very carefully

Looks pretty good yes. and the fat percentage should be high. Around 65 is pretty good.

If that's what you're eating on a regular basis, then you are undereating.

          B: 2 eggs, 2 bacon - 2 carbs
How many carbs in that bacon?

A large egg has 0.39 net carbs.

          L: steamed asparagus and broccoli with a tomato/mozzarella salad - 11 carbs
It would have been more useful if you wrote net carbs, not total carbs, since that's what we're counting.

How much oil did you add to the salad?

          gyro meat
What were the ingredients in this?

          S: 6 turkey slices
          What are the ingredients?

          plus a multivitamin
          Without iron, right?

Looks pretty good. One recommendation I would make is to second the above and make sure you get some protein in at lunch, with enough fat. I found that if I don't eat a well rounded meal for each of the 3 big meals each day, I get hungry and have cravings. Same if I don't eat enough fat at a meal. Sounds like today was just one of those days when things didn't work out, and that happens sometimes. I run into that occasionally and make a mental note to really watch what I eat the next meal so I don't overeat.

            Good job for far!

Re: Newbie Needing Help with Menu

              Thanks so much everyone!

Liv, I never thought about the gyro meat having added sugars. Good point. I will watch out for that. I've been trying to focus on cooking my own meals so I will know the carb count for sure, but I have a work lifestyle where I eat out alot. Tupperware is becoming my friend.

Georgiana, thanks for the suggestions. As Liz pointed out, I really need to consider what is being added to meats. The salad was plain (I asked them to remake me one without adding extras) and the turkey had 2 carbs. I'm glad you mentioned the multivitamin, I just bought new ones with 18mg (100% DV) of iron. I didn't buy them with this WOL in mind. I guess I should give those away and buy some new ones... :-/ Wont make that mistake next time!

Kitty, totally agreed. I am going to bulk up my main meals so I make sure not to get tempted by someone's wayward snack.

This board is so helpful and supportive. Thanks a million!!
