  • What am i doing wrong?

    Hello
Day 5 of induction. Seem to be doing everything right but no big weight loss.
I am in ketosis and I'm exercising. I dont crave food but am eating until satisfied without being stuffed. Just to be sure I upped the water intake.
I (as I'm sure are many people) am on levoxyl, could that be the reason no big drop?
I dont want to get discouraged.

levoxyl is thyroid med, right? It should be helping you. Did you have your thyroid checked recently.

Just write down your menu here. In as much detail as you can and we will see if you need to tweak something

Not everyone drops double digits in Induction. I am lucky if I get four pounds off in Induction. Also, you have less than 40 pounds to lose so you are going to take it off more slowly than someone who has, say, 100+ pounds to lose. The meds may very well play a role too. Finally, hormonal changes can cause scale issues. Best thing is to put the scale away for awhile and focus on the plan itself.

        Thank you for responding.
Things are looking considerably brighter today. Scale read 156 ½.
Having my thyroid bloods drawn this morning just to be sure.
        Regime:
        3:30 am levoxyl, water

7:30 am 1 slice of swiss cheese (< 1 oz), mulitvitamin, ca/vitD tabs. 8 oz water.
        Exercise, 8 oz water
B: egg, swiss cheese (<1 oz), mushroom (1/4 c) omelet; herbal tea 16 oz with stevia.

        Push water 24 oz.
L: roast beef, raw cauliflower 1 cup (mayo to taste), ca/vit D
        Finish water requirements
        1 slice swiss cheese (< 1 oz)

D: chicken, mushrooms/peppers sauted in olive oil. cavit D 8 oz Diet Rite soda with splenda
1 slice slice cheese (<1 oz)
*A possible reason for my not losing initially: I had bronchitis/congestion. Decongestants raise my BP so I avoid those and it was rather a long 2 weeks of “uncomfortable”, especially lying down. I took sugar-free cough drops to get some sleep. They have the sugar subs Atkins says to avoid. By yesterday I didn’t need them anymore.

Why not have water instead of the Diet Rite?

You seem to rely on cheese.

How many calories are you eating? How many net carbs total?

Great that things are going better.

I thought your menu may be low on calories and low on fat.
I suggest using FitDay - Free Weight Loss and Diet Journal just to make sure that you get enough calories and enough fat. Fat should be around 65% of your calories

Re: What am i doing wrong?

woo Hoo glad your scales moved and you are feeling better about atkins and your physical health.

As we do atkins us that are hypothyroid need to remeber that low cal low carb can agitate our thyroid condition so be sure you are eating enough food while your carbs are so low in Induction. once you get to OWL and increase your carbs climbing the carb ladder it shouldn't be an issue.

One more thing foods that interfer with thyroid need to be eatten with consistancy so your doc can titrate your meds to match your life style. Many of the induction veggies are goitrogens so be sure you keep your doc advced about your food changes too.

I needed my drugs changed 3 times after being stabilized during my atkins weight loss.

Re: What am i doing wrong?

I am now on Fitday. Thank you for the tip.

Cheese: I wanted (not craved) something different so I spread my cheese out. (as i try to spread my vegs out). Any other suggestions? (note: one of the reasons i chose Atkins was that on the other plans I was forever planning, thinking, cooking about FOOD. Want to de-emphasize food.
Also, I went to buy sugar free jello for a snack but when i looked at the ingredients I wasnt sure it was such a good idea. Is it OK? Any reco'd brands?

Re: What am i doing wrong?

you can make your own legal jello. buy unflavored gelatin in a box one commercial brand is Knox but there are cheaper store brands. buy a flavor of splenda sweetened soda you like.

then use the soda as the water sweetener and flavor to make a package of jello following the directions on the box for total water and steps like the softening etc.

if you boil only 1/2 your soda and then add the rest already chilled once the gleatin is dissolved you will get fizzy jello. you can add less then the required amount of liquid to make firmer jello and you cna always make more packets and end up with jello jigglers or Knox blocks depending on how old you are. remember to count the servings of soda in your recipe as a serving of your 3 a day sweetener limits so you know how mnay are in your bowl or jello and count any carbs too.
some folk use grainular splenda and koolaide powder to make legal jello too.

If you need a snack, then it would be better to eat something that actually provides some nutrition.

                              Hi anon,

I'm carne and new to the board...and new to clean induction too (2 days!).

I found a website on levoxyl and certain foods can hinder absorption:
soybean flour (infant formula), cottonseed meal, walnuts, and dietary fiber.
Are you eating any of that?

                              Good news though:
                              Q. Is weight gain a side effect of Levoxyl®?
                              A.
No, weight gain is not a side effect associated with Levoxyl® therapy. Weight gain or trouble in losing weight is a common symptom of an underactive thyroid. Thyroid hormones tend to affect weight and how easy or hard it is to lose weight.
Looks like the scale is going down though....don't worry...my mom did Atkins and she didn't lose a whole lot the first weeks....but she did stick to it very steadily over a couple of months and has lost a lot of weight and inches.
