  • omygod..... didnt know i was taking more than 20g carbs until day 11th :(

i was taking 2 sausages each day until day 11...checked the label and one sausage contains 12 g of carb! i know, i should've checked earlier. i had 2-3 servings of vege.. so thats more than 24g of carbs each day! no more sausage now..or processed meat

so i was doing a low carb diet...but Not ATKINS right??
since my carb intake was above 20g

i have 10kgs to lose..this is day 14th....and i've only lost 3kg. is that slow? i've cheated some days and had 1/2 cup of tea with sweetened milk(11g carb)... but i'm mentally stronger now and have stopped drinking tea. i take 1/2 cup of pumpkin with butter to satisfy my sweet tooth now..the sweetness is enough for me. sometimes i add 1 stick of stevia sweetener...

1)i 've been taking less than 20g of carbs since day 12..
so is day12 considered my actual first day of atkins induction phase?

2)since i was doing a low carb diet(which is not atkins)...
will the next 2 weeks of induction slow me down, since my body is used to low carb? .............thanks in advance

Yes. You should always read the list of ingredients (it's important!) and the nutritional information before you buy something.

i had 2-3 servings of vege
    How much is a serving?

How many net carbs from vegetables have you been eating?

i have 10kgs to lose..this is day 14th....and i've only lost 3kg. is that slow?
It is what it is. There isn't slow or fast... unless you compare your weight loss rate with someone else... and that's useless and often leads to disappointment.

If you lost 3 kg out of 10 in 2 weeks, then you lost over 33% of the weight you needed to lose when you started. If you check the metabolic resistance tables in your copy of Dr. Atkins' New Diet Revolution (2002) -- which I hope you are reading -- you will see that this means you have a low resistance to weight loss.

And if these are your results while eating those sausages, and since you only have 14 or so pounds left to lose, I would suggest you continue with OWL Rung 1 rather than do Induction. This means starting at 25 net carbs, with more than 16 coming from Induction vegetables.

Don't forget to count net carbs. That's total carbs minus dietary fiber.

As Georgiana said, to lose that amount even with those carby sausages was really good
I agree with her suggestion to move to the first rung/level of OWL now and add some more vegetables.

Apart from the sausages, what number of net carbs have you been eating on average? For OWL rung one you just add 5 net carbs more off the induction list, so if you were eating maybe 12 net carbs on induction, aim for 17 on OWL.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

My local butchers make gluten free sausages consisting of only pork meat. So I order them regularly for my son, who cannot eat grains - but now I'm on atkins I can eat them too.
So if you really miss sausages maybe you could get some made?

With another 15 or so pounds left to lose I would not waste time on induction but start the great OWL scientific experiment now so you have plenty of time to test out the rungs/levels.

Remember Dr Atkins expected us to lose our last 5 to 10 pounds on the third phase of Atkins.

Don't forget to change your 'Atkins phase' bit to show you are now an OWLer!

Hi blooberry, this is going to blow your mind, but tea is listed as having about 1 carb per 12 oz. of unsweetened tea. Sooo, your tea is counting toward your carbs, too. That's pretty much why, and in induction especially, you should drink plain water. Tea will also contribute to water retention.
