  • Out of ketosis at the end of induction :-(

    Hey there,

I've started my induction on April 4th and basically finished it yesterday, on the 18th. All the time I was in Ketosis, according to the Ketostix I'm using.
However I continued eating the same way today but it seems that I've dropped out of it as the Ketostix showed no signs of Ketos

Last night I had two little pieces of lacrice - I know I know, it's not allowed, but I didnt really have many carbs over the day and I had received those as a gift from the Netherlands.
This morning for breakfast: 2 eggs sunny side up
Lunch: Leftovers of my Alfredo chicken with broccoli (low carb recipe) and scrambled eggs with tuna.

Around 4-5pm I had an Atkins bar (which I'll avoid in future, that's for sure). Went to the gym, lifting weights, around 8pm and had 2 protein shakes (very low in carbs) with water after it. And now I've apparently dropped out...

I've had the atkins bars a few times in the previous days as I don't get to eat every day during lunch - it didn't show any negative effects until now (maybe slower weight-loss but I dont weigh in everyday).

Any idea what else might have caused this drop-out? Is it the lacrice from last night? Seriously, two mini pieces, maybe 8g-10g of carbs.

    Edit:
Just tried another "ketostick", which now showed that im perfectly fine ?!?!

I guess the first one didnt really work out well - I'm using the LW Scientific Inc strips.

The sticks are NOT a reliable source of information (unless you want to test your aim).

You can be "in ketosis" and not register on the stick. You can register positive on the stick and not be doing Atkins correctly. The sticks just don't tell you if you're 1) doing Atkins properly or 2) going to lose weight.

<<Is it the lacrice from last night? Seriously, two mini pieces, maybe 8g-10g of carbs.<<

I imagine that carbs were purely from sugar. Not a good choice, seriously.

Your eating yesterday seems very heavy on "products" a bar, 2 protein shakes and lacrice (licorice?).

Doesn't seem like a good Atkins day, eating wise.

Regardless of whether or not the candy was a gift, eating it was a poor choice. Next time, regift ... or say "thank you" and dispose of it.

        Thanks for your comments!
You're right, I'll give the lacrice to somebody else who'll be happier about it.

I'll seriously cut out the Diet cokes in the next two weeks to see how much of a difference it makes. Regarding the bars - i know that they're not the best choice but I'll be on a fair for the entire next week and besides Junkfood and dishes where I don't really know the ingredients, I won't be able to find anything besides the bars. The fair is actually the primary reason why I went through the hassle of having bars shipped over here. Breakfast & Dinner will be great though; lot's of great Chinese dishes for dinner that are meat-based and very yummy!

I might even try to cut out on the coffee during the day and see where it takes me. Because, now that I think about it, my weight loss hasn't been that great at all in the second week of induction.
