    1. Where in the book does it list you have to get 1/2 net carbs from veggies on induction? Page number please. I would like to look it up when I get home.

    2. Since the book lists 3 cups (no more) of veggies a day on induction, and you can have up to 20 net grams a day, which vegetables, at 3 cups can give you 10 net grams?

In reference to question 2, whatever that veggie is, is the only veggie you can eat during induction to get 50% of your net carbs based on what you moderators are saying.

For example, if I want to eat 2 cups of romaine lettuce and 1 cup cabbage (raw) I would be eating 8.3 - 4.2= 4.1 net carbs. That menu is induction legal and follows the Dr. Atkins rules.

So if I go by that, those 4.1 net carbs in veggies is suppose to be 50% of what I can eat. That means I can only eat another 4.1 carbs in other foods for the day which is well below the grams allotted on induction.

Please let me say this...I know there are other veggies out there I am just using it as an example for my questions....

I found that it said on page 123:

    Induction Rule #3
Eat no more than 20 grams a day of carbohydrate, most of which must come in the form of salad greens and other vegetables....

It seems like most will be a more relative term for people, but I do try to meet at least half if not more each day. That's just me tho.

Yes, Kristi, that is the rule we are going by
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

You can have more than 10 net carbs from your vegetables if you choose some of the more carby ones than mainly lettuce. Take a look at the latest vegetable challenge here on ADBB to see how the last contestants did it - see the link in my signature.
For example, if I want to eat 2 cups of romaine lettuce and 1 cup cabbage (raw) I would be eating 8.3 - 4.2= 4.1 net carbs. That menu is induction legal and follows the Dr. Atkins rules.

Well strictly speaking, if you are going to eat 'most' of your net carbs from your veggies you would need to be eating less than 4.1 carbs from foods other than veggie in your example.

But, yes, if you choose to eat 4.1 net carbs from your vegetables then 'legally' your total of net carbs for that day 'should' be only 8.2 net carbs, which is way below the maximum allowed of up to 20.

The trick is to choose different vegetables from the 'salad vegetable' list, not just lettuce. Sweet red peppers according to fitday.com have 7 net carbs per cup and jicama has 5 net carbs per cup. Both are on the salad veg list so you could have up to 2 cups of them.

From the 'other vegetable' list many have more carbs than cabbage - raw onions have about 11 net carbs per cup and pumpkin has about 7 per cup.

So if you had 1 cup of lettuce (1 net) plus 1/2 cup of red peppers (3.5 net) and 1/2 cup of jicama (2.5 net) plus 1/2 cup of onions (5.5 net) and 1/2 cup of pumpkin (2.5 net) you could be eating 15 net carbs from the vegetables alone, leaving about 5 net carbs for some eggs/cheese/cream and still be eating less than 20 net carbs.

I only asked this question to help the newbies.

And I do eat more than just salad although I eat salad everyday, because I like it.

I did strict induction last week for 1.5 cups salad and the rest other veggies, up to 3 cups. It was about 30% of my net carbs. I dropped like mad for being at a low weight to begin with.

Today 48% of my veggies are from my net carbs. I don't think that's too shabby!

Thanks Elizellen I will look at that post for the veggie challenge when I get home. I may do one after I get back from vacation. It would be fun.
