  • Need a wake-up call

    Hi all,

I tried this before and managed to lose some weight. Went to Hawaii in April and since then have done nothing but pig out all the time. The more carbs I eat, the more I crave......Typical day lately is MCDonalds in the morning, Taco Johns at lunch, steak/chicken for dinner w/baked potato, and a bag of micro pop corn while watching 2 hours of television every night.

I need a kick in the rear, I need someone to help me take off those fattyblind glasses and wakeup and smell the real world.

I am starting Induction tomorrow. Please give me a shot of motivation or energy, I feel too comfy with my fat self and I continually gain weight each week. Why do I continually hide and deny the issue of being fat and lazy? How do I face reality when I'm in denial. Obviously, I avoid the scale lately.

    Just had to vent.......

    Hi Nicholet :wave

Atkins can not only help you lose the weight it will improve every aspect of your physical and emotional well being. The key is you have to want it, you have to stop indulging yourself, you have to break age old addictions and be willing to learn a new way of life.

It's that simple and it's that difficult.

Difficult only if you refuse to do the tiny bit that's required of you to succeed. To read and understand the book and to simply follow the steps. If you can do that - you'll succeed.

Just looking around this Board I'm sure you've seen how effective Atkins can be. Many people here have lost 25...50..100..200 pounds and absolutely reinvented themselves - you can do the same what it boils down to is you.

Either you want to be slim, healthy and strong or you want to be 226 pounds, gaining even more, unhealthy and weak.

Just by asking for support you've made your choice now all you have to do is ensure your success with every step you take no matter how small. Make sure you have the most recent copy of "Dr Atkins New Diet revolution" known around here as DANDR it's critical that you have the book.

Read it, use it as your guide and reference without the book - failure is inevitable.

Avoid any pitfalls from the get go, print out the list of acceptable foods on Induction, hit the market and stock up on all the wonderful foods that are available to you during this phase of Induction.

You'll find warm, non judgmental support here, 24/7 365 days a year by people who believe in Atkins, themselves and - you.

You might take a moment and read a recent post https://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard....ic.php?t=71945

Nicholet, you can do this you really can.

          Re: Need a wake-up call

          Hey Nicholet,
Welcome! I'm so glad you decided to join us!

For some reason my computer isn't working right this evening for quotes! Nicholet, you said:

"I need a kick in the rear, I need someone to help me take off those fattyblind glasses and wakeup and smell the real world."

*I'm going to give you a hug instead! One of the things that has caused me to jump on the 'vicious cycle' of yo-yo eating is to beat myself up. That never helps. Making the decision to cherish myself and take really good care of myself made the difference for me. You're much too precious to be 'kicked' around.

"I am starting Induction tomorrow. Please give me a shot of motivation or energy, I feel too comfy with my fat self and I continually gain weight each week. Why do I continually hide and deny the issue of being fat and lazy? How do I face reality when I'm in denial. Obviously, I avoid the scale lately."

*Weighing alot isn't necessary. You will want to take your beginning weight then after that, if the scales are a burden then don't use them. They are not the only way to tell you are losing weight on this program.
Perhaps if you adopt a mind set of taking care of yourself, you will be able to honestly look at yourself in the mirror and say, 'I love you! I DON'T want you to be unhealthy! So I'm going to committ to this program. It's NOT another diet. It is an entirely new mindset. I AM WORTH IT!'
That worked for me. Perhaps it will work for you too!

Count on me to be in your corner!
          Be well-

Due to a medical problem I was forced to look at my body for what it had become, and that was my reality slap in the face. I had hardly ever looked at my body from the neck down and it was shocking to really look at myself.

The day I started this diet I put on that too-tight green tshirt, and those very snug shorts and I got bf to take my start picture. I was not brave enough to take pics of myself in underwear, but as I've lost the weight, I wish I had (and kept them private of course! :yikes )

You might want to take some very truthful pictures of yourself, so you can see for yourself what you look like...but more importantly, look at that picture as your starting point.

"Here I am today...but tomorrow, next week, month, year...I'm going to look so different!"
That's why I'm grinning so big in that first picture, because I knew this was going to be an exciting year for me...and wow...here I am! :joy

And I'm just a regular average person who just read the book, followed the Rules and learned truckloads about myself in the process.

              WHAT PETER SAID!

We've all been through what you're currently experiencing, but the good news is, following Atkins for the rest of your life will empower you to overcome crap foods FOREVER!!

We can't give you the motivation .. but you do need to read the book!! That will be all the motivation you need to get started on the path to a healthier you!! No better time to start than this moment!!

I am a reformed carboholic, junkfood queen, couch potato. Atkins has changed all that. I now eat healthy foods that give me FUEL to workout and stay thin. 5 years ago, I was feeling the effects of approaching 50 years of age ... I was letting myself go and really didn't care. Then, one day, I picked up the 2002 edition of DANDR (Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution) and it forever changed my life.

Many here on this board can testify to the same results! YOU CAN DO IT! Set your mind on it and take charge of your health for GOOD!!

              Cheering you all the way!

                you will love doing it

Nicolet, welcome back to Atkins! ha

Staying in denial about our weight gain hurts - even if we don't acknowlege the hurt. I felt bad about my body for 42 years. This is the first time in my entire life that I have felt good about myself.

There is a pivitol moment when you make a decision to love yourself enough to let yourself be changed. All it takes is a little faith.

And though, in the beginning you may think it is going to be hard and that you will be deprived, you soon find it is much easier to apply yourself to Atkins than it is to keep denying your weight gain pain.

So give yourself two weeks, or even a month to live on faith.
You did it before - now make it a permanent lifestyle.

Soon ketosis will set in, cravings will dissapate, and since you get to eat delicious food all the time, you will then transition to a Way of Eating and a Way of Life that feels completely natural and far more enjoyable than eating out of control.

A few tips - I think it is easier to start induction if you have prepared yourself well. Re-read the book, throw the junk out of your house, buy the foods on the approved food lists, and make this forum your second home.
Suffering is necessary until you realize it is unnecessary. Eckhart Tolle

                  here's a hint...

i'm doing induction myself, and its going pretty good so far, I'm going to get weighed and get my BMI checked out tomorrow (Saturday), but I'm not planning to go again to the Nutrition Centre until after the induction 14 days period is over, but i"m planning to go onto extended induction...

I'm 32 years old now, but when i was a teenager and in the process of losing 20 pounds, I remembered I put all these pictures of models from my teen magazines onto my walls, and people used to come to my bedroom (friends, family etc) thinking what the **** do you ahve on your walls? but to me they were inspiration, and how I wanted to look. I was not fat in high school but i had a bit of extra weight that I wanted to lose. The pictures surrounding me, helped me and inspired me to lose the weight.

You have to want something badly. I find the before and after pictures of many of the members on this forum/board are amazing. Just amazing that they have managed to get those results in often very short time periods considering. But they worked hard, and put their initial cravings aside and focused on achieving.

I'm also writing this for myself as well, as obviously because this is the fourth time trying Atkins, I also need and can use the extra motivation.

                  Take care and good luck!

ohh and we are going to the fish market today to buy a fish and get it grilled on the spot....last time we bought a big red snapper and after it was grilled it was yummm...

                      good to hear!!

glad we can help pull you out of it! I think also participating in support groups, whether both online or offline (such as this one) are awesome. I think just knowing and being able to communicate, whether verbal or non verbal (through text) are motivating for a person.

I also think that if you have learned from your past mistakes and keep chugging along to the Atkins WOE and Way of thinking then it can harm. That's what's happened to me, although I have fallen off the track, I still had it on my mind, but the main thing is self control.

                      just my two cents worth!

But glad you are feeling better and more motivated! :joy :joy
