Hi everyone! I just joined, and am on day 4 of induction, first time ever trying atkins or low carb in general. I looked for a message board b/c there is a party at work with all the necessary party foods, and so the temptation was overwhelming. But, have been true to myself and my goal and haven't even ventured to the break room.
A little about me:
I don't know how much I weigh, last time I checked it was 236 and I'm sure its much higher but I can't bear the thought of knowing. I'm in pretty good shape, considering my weight, and have been quasi-consistent on working out for most of my life. About 4 years ago, I lost a bit of weight (probably only around 20lbs, but looked like much more b/c of change in body composition), but was really restricting my caloric intake and working out like 4 hours a day and just overall unhealthy. I moved to a different city, and found my eating habits were getting worse and excercise less. Slowly I've been gaining, and its just sickening now, my stomach is nothing but nasty stretch marks.
A few weeks ago I was talking to my parents and my dad mentioned how the only time he ever lost weight before was when he lived on his own and only ate steak and salad, no carbs. That resonated with me, and thats why I started atkins.
I don't have a set amount of weight I want to lose, I just want to be able to look in the mirror and have my pic taken without hesitation. I guess if I could get down to the weight I was before - 175 - I would be satisfied. when i started atkins on monday my goal was to get through the first two weeks and see how I felt. But I haven't really thought much about what will happen after these two weeks. I guess with the amount of weight I want to lose I should stay on induction a little longer, but we'll see.
Induction has been okay so far. I'm not strictly measuring my veggies, just eyeballing, but my overall carb intake is still right around 20, maybe even a little below. Basically I'm eating eggs with cheese for breakfast, cheese slices for snack, salad w/ meat for lunch, atkins snack bar or veggies for snack, and for dinner I'm eating either salad or veggie and a meat dish. The first day I didn't bring enough food to work and was hungry but after that I haven't been hungry - just cravings. I do feel like I'm eating a lot of cheese, which leaves such a nasty flavor in my mouth. And today for lunch I'm having a little salad with peppers and tuna, which I really don't like tuna but don't really have anything else, I mixed in some chopped onions, peppers and celery so maybe it will taste better (~ tblspoon of veggies). I'm still allowing myself my daily can of diet coke in the am, but after that all water. I haven't had any headaches but have been really, really dead tired.
I guess I don't really have any questions, I just wanted to put myself out there b/c I need support and inspiration.
bye for now!
