  • What can I expect if I have 44 lbs. to lose?

I'm starting Atkins Sunday- with that said I've done this before and had good results however, I failed to stick with it. This time I'm inspired and have will power. I have a small frame and I'm 5'5" right now I weight 154 lbs. and I've gained this weight over the last three years- work related sitting ugh.

How many days before I will feel the ketosis kick in and appetite supression? Since this is not my first time I expect it will take longer. And how fast can I dump this weight? I'm very committed and I also started going to the gym, I did notice my weight wouldn't budge when doing this and that was very dis-heartening. Any advice about this would be appreciated.

    Hi Tami.

It won't take longer for you to get into ketosis. Generally it's a 2-4 day thing and the appetite suppression will generally follow right away.

This isn't a fast weight loss plan, Tami. It'll take as long as it takes and a huge part of that is going to be how dedicated to the eating you are and you stay.

As for going to the gym and not seeing your WEIGHT budge....well, is your goal FAT loss or WEIGHT loss? There's a big difference. You can be the same weight and drop sizes because you're losing inches (losing FAT and gaining MUSCLE). You also have to remember that when you first add an exercise routine into your schedule your muscles will hold on to and retain water for quite awhile - because it's their way of protecting themselves from the new stresses they're being put through. You know logically that the only thing exercise can do is benefit your fat loss efforts. More muscle means burning more calories at a resting rate - and it also looks hot and healthy. You have to remember that muscle is much more dense than fat...

Your goal should be much more about a size than a number. Scales lie. They don't tell the truth about what condition you're in by any stretch of the imagination. The scale can vary by as much as 7lbs in one day for some people (ME!!) - and that 7lbs fluctuation doesn't speak to the fact that at 157lbs I wear a loose 10/slightly snug 8.

Hang in there and keep working it!
