The book says you will lose a minimum of 8-10lbs during induction but then I have heard folks quote 10% of total weight lost during induction. Which is it.? Can't be both. If you have 30 lbs to lose, 10% will only be 3 lbs.

Re: Induction lost confusion
Many people lose 8-10 pounds during induction if the entire 2 week period is a clean induction. Some lose less, others lose more. 8-10 is a good average though. The 10% comes into play with those on either end of the spectrum. In your example, someone with only 30 pounds to lose may lose only 3-4 pounds. I need to lose 40 pounds, and I only lost 5 during induction. Someone needing to lose 150 pounds may very well lose 15 during induction. The more you have to lose the more you can lose during induction. Conversely, the less you have to lose overall, the less you will probably lose during induction.
I agree, it's confusing. Just stay off the scales during induction and go by how your clothes feel.

Re: Induction lost confusion
just remember it is all realtive to the amount of excess fat you have to shed. 5 pounds for somebody needing to lose 30 is the same as 1.6 for somebody needing to lose 10 pounds.
Also how you are and exercises before you started will have a big effect on the amount of weight you have to spare as stored glycogen and fluids. some folk hold lots of fluids and the diuretic effect will drive that fluid out while others don't.
Happy low carbing. remember OWL isn't going to slow you down that much. read chapter 13 and know when it is time for you to move so you don't get bored with the restrive food choices and blow your great start.

Re: Induction lost confusion
Five pound is awesome. I lost 7 during a very strict bootcamp induction. I've been on Atkins since the day after Christmas, but started in earnest mid January. So far I'm down 15 pounds. I've sabotaged myself over the last 2 weeks with bad food choices and lack of exercise, but I'm back on the wagon now.
Keep up the good work!
Originally posted by AngelasherellThanks Fluffyman. I guest with 30lbs to lose, 5 lbs is decent for induction. Mine officially ended Monday. I am going to extend it 2 more weeks. Since you do not have alot to lose, how long have you been on Atkins and how much have you lost?

I am on my elliptical machine 5 days a week for 45 minutes and lifting weights twice a week. The food choices are not a bother to me so far, so I am postponing OWL for another 2 - 3 weeks.
Thanks for your support!!!!
