  • I need some TOUGH LOVE!!!

    Okay ... I can NOT seem to stay away from sugar alcohols! I blame my husband ... he works for a pharmacy and he thought he'd bring me some "sugar free - net 3 carbs" candy! Well ... I ate it!!!! Not gonna lie! So ... I blame HIM for bringing it home (and peanut butter/chocolate to boot) but, most of all, I blame myself for EATING IT!!!

    Will sugar alcohols be the death of this diet for me? And ... with the world being full of sugar alcohols in so MANY things these days ... my question is: ARE THEY BETTER OR NOT THAN REGULAR CANDIES???? I mean, if eating sugar alcohols is so terrible ... then I should just pick up the regular sugar full candy, right??? Or, no?? The whole sugar alcohols thing really throws me for a loop with confusion.

    I know they're NOT good and should be avoided ... but ... if they are "low glycemic" as they say they are ... are they killing this for me???

    I'm going to chuck them into the garbage tonight!! But ... then, the one thing is this as well. BREAKFAST!!! I HATE mornings! I get up, get ready and get out the door in only enough time to do just that. I sleep in until the last possible minute, put it that way. So ... it's easy for me to grab a Atkins breakfast bar with 2 glasses of water and have that be my breakfast. Then, I move into a pre-lunch snack of egg salad on celery ... burned cheese on a plate ... cream cheese on celery ... beef sticks or something like those things. WATER ... Then, a good lunch with a red meat something with a big salad. Then, an afternoon snack of something as mentioned above ... WATER ... and a nice dinner with the other 1/2 of my daily veggies and a good meat product. WATER ... Then, ... with the sugar alcohols being in the picture ... I grab a piece of candy after dinner and call it "desert" and drink more water ...

    And, something else I've been doing for the week is working away a serving of lightly salted (opposed to normally HEAVY SALTED) sunflower seeds. A whole little bag is only 2 carbs!! And, if you eat the whole bag, it can take a long time so ... it kills time. Then, after my last (96th ounce) of water, it's bedtime!

    So ... UGH! I'm really doing bad with the sugar alcohols!!!! Please give me tough love so ... I feel bad enough to dump them for good. lol

    Does ANYONE else have this problem???

    If you want to eat sunflower seeds, why not move on to OWL (they aren't allowed on Induction).
    Ok, as for the sugar alcohols, you have to give them up. Think of them the same as 'real' candy, if you want to be healty and thin, you must give them up. There is no easy answer to weight loss, you have to give some things up to get what you want. Nothing in life is easy. Try getting up 1/2 hour earklier in the morning and eating a boiled egg and a strip of sugar-free bacon (you can cook it the night before). There are answers to how to correct your 'sugar alcohol' problem, but I suspect they aren't what you want to hear. I am sorry if this offends you, but I am only telling you this because I want you to be healty and happy and have success. This WOL works, but you MUST follow DANDR. Its really that simple.
    What would we do without it?

      when i did this diet last time, I was stuck on the sugar alcohols. when i did, i just stopped losing weight.

      it didnt work at all
      eventually i got bored of not losing any weight, and went off completely.

      i know about wanting dessert, it's important for me too. i know we're supposed to break the sweet tooth, but i like having a little something sweet on my mouth.

      so, i have cream cheese with splena and cocoa, or with lime juice and splenda. last week i even made a splenda cheesecake! although be careful of portions, i made mine last a looooooong time.

        First of all, I HAVE been there before. That's why reply to this is so important to me.

        Okay, I don't know if this is tough love or not but (and please still love me after this...You are in control of you, not DH. You put those candies into your mouth. No it isn't easy to look those suckers in the face and say no, but if you want this bad enough, believe me, you can and you will. You ARE strong enough. You DO want this. That's why you said you're going to throw them away! You do want this for yourself, and GREAT job chucking them!!

        Is this easy, never. But does it get easier, of course. But you have to be the one in control at all times. You have to ETCH that into your brain. You are worth it and you are so strong and you deserve to be happy and healthy and feel great. But only you can give that to yourself. Only you can change the way you think and the things you eat. Those candies aren't worth it right now. Maybe one day.

        I am not saying this to be harsh, but it is the truth. I learned all of these things the hard way. I managed to lose 25 pounds out of a little luck and I gained 33 back. I have been there. You have to get this into your mind now, before the consequences are horrible. I just don't want you to end up like I did.

        I have learned a lot of this is mind over matter. I hate breakfast too. I like to sleep in and all that, but I LOVE getting on that scale and looking at that tape and seeing progress. Make breakfast 'muffins'. I'll give you the recipe if you want it. Just pop them in the microwave and go. Their are options, you just gotta look. I am the LAZIEST person you will ever meet in your life, I promise So I am ALWAYS looking for a short cut! LOL
        I love ya, and I know you love yourself and you want to be healthy and so happy. You so deserve this.

        You know what you have to do, we don't need to tell you. You wouldn't be here if you didn't want this. You wouldn't be asking for tough love if you didn't already feel this way. You made mistakes, we all do. OWL would be perfect for you. More variety, lots of choices, you may really enjoy it.

        You are on the right track, by throwing them away and confessing you need some help. You are gonne be just fine. You remind me a LOT of myself when I first started. I needed that extra kick in the arse, but lemme tell you girl, you have that fight in you.

          Great post, Jsj!!!!! Apopson, you ARE worth it!!! 3 months from now, you will either be so darn happy you listen to this post, or depressed because you didn't. I want you to be happy, and I want you to make goal. We are pulling for ya!!!!

            Well, I have enough to be depressed about oustide my weight so ... don't want that to be added. I give them UP!!!! Really Really!

                From one Clevelander to another... I had lost 150 lbs at one point and blew it all, lost momentum and gained it back because of those nasty little suckers...Russell Stover.....Ross......ONe Carb Reeses...EEP!

                Luckily, the low carb candy is no longer as prevalent as it once was.

                              Aw thanks! I am glad you like both of them!!! LOL. The graphic and DH, not 2 DHs...you know what I mean! haha

                              He looks so rough in this picture. We were so tired..and he didn't shave. He can be a hairy beast sometimes, but I love him anyway! LOL
