  • Question about new foods

I am currently on day 3 of induction and all is going well. I just had a question about new foods. I am a pretty picky eater and most of the foods on the induction food list I have never tried. In OWL it says to only eat new foods you add 3 times a week to see how they act with you. Is this the same in induction?

    THanks

    Week 1 (6/21-6/27)
    1. Drink at least 1 gallon plain water daily
    2. Try at least 3 new recipes (this will be tough-I always prepare things the same-this will encourage me to try things differently and include foods that are different for me)
    3. Try at least 5 new foods on acceptable foods list (this will also be tough being that I only have a set food list of about 10 things I eat)
    4. Begin exercising by walking everyday.
    5. Take a before picture of myself

    Re: Question about new foods

Induction is pretty simple....eat from the Acceptable Foods list and follow the Rules of Induction correctly. Seeing as it typically lasts two weeks, there really isn't any 'food experimenting' going on as such. This is the time to detox from the old way of eating and get into the groove of the new. OWL is the time for experimenting and monitoring what the different foods do to you.

Having said that, since you sound like you have a fairly limited palate, it's important that you expand your food horizons, and I encourage you to do just that. Different foods (especially vegetables!!) give you different nutrients and fiber, and your body needs that variety to stay strong and healthy, and for you to feel more satisfied after you eat.

For you, Induction and OWL will be used to broaden your palate...have some fun with it...check out the recipe forum...ask questions....enjoy the world of food!!

      Re: Question about new foods

I've been having fun experimenting with some new foods...like turnip (eww) and chayote squash (YUM) and jicama (yum). As you can see, some of them I like and some I don't. But, I'm expanding my horizons! I tell my stepson all the time, just try it...if you don't like it you don't have to eat it...but you just might! He's now eating brussel sprouts, asparagus and summer squash!!

Yeah, trying new foods is a funny thing. It is just now since starting back to Atkins that I have discovered Spinach. Yum! Yum!

I tried califlower for the first time tonight...it wasn't too bad. And I have the most picky palate I know of.

There's a big difference between adding new foods in induction, like Moochie said you just eat from the list. If there are any foods you have not tried, go ahead and try them, doesn't matter how many a week. OWL however is very structured. You add food groups in a particular order, moving up the 'rungs'. If you have not read the book at least read the stickies at the top of the Induction forum with the rules, and the OWL forum. That will give you a better idea.
