  • HELP!! Getting frustrated, no weight or inches lost

I started on March 28th,2006 at 225. My goal is 140. I lost 15 pounds the first two weeks. I was 210 on April 12th. Feel great. Drinking loads and loads of water, no cheating. Not hungry but making sure I eat something anyway...not going more than than 6 hours (when I'm awake) walking for exercise. But now that I hit 210..the scale seems to be stuck...it won't move at all.

This is soo frustrating. I will say I feel a lot better without sugar and flour in my life. I miss fruit...but I want to lose the weight more than I want the fruit. I am 56 with two bad knees and an end stage shoulder. So the kind of exercise I can do is limited...but I am doing what I can. I have a dive trip planned in June...when I dive I get a lot more exercise...and that I can do ...but I live in Northern New Mexico and Denver..no diving right here, right now. Here's a typical day:

Breakfast: 1 egg omelet with cheese and green onions
    Three strips of bacon

Lunch: 2 smoked pork ribs (no sugar no barbeque sauce...but if I want sauce a tarragon, mayo and mustard mix)
cup of clow slaw (homemade...I use 1/2 head of cabbage to a 1/4 onion a T of apple cider vinegar. A sprinkle of dried ranch dressing and some mayo)

3 or so....couple of celery sticks dipped in guacamole (avacado, onion, sour cream, jalepeno peppers) or maybe some sliced red peppers

Dinner: Two small lamb chops (if I can handle that much meat...sometimes I give it to my critters)
salad with romane, cukes, sprouts, maybe a couple of cherry tomatoes and a tsp. of Drew's Ginger soy dressing..0 carbs (great stuff..I highly recommend it..it happened to be my favorite dressing before) If I think I need something more..a little mashed cauliflower.

Any suggestions as to how to kick this in gear? I wouldn't mind being patient if I could just get the &^*& scale to budge even a little.

Any suggestions on what I can do to move things. Yes, I'm happy with the initial 15lbs...but NOTHING (not measurements...fit...nothing) has changed since April 12th. I am on Metformin and Cozaar..looking forward to getting off both of them. According to what I read..Metformin can HELP with weight loss. What's going on? Suggestions greatfully accepted.

Okay, here you go! Great info...
      Quote:

A biologist at Berkeley shared something very revealing on the low-carb BBS system about 4 years ago that helps us all through the erratic weight fluctuations you invariably encounter:

"Fat cells are resilient, stubborn little creatures that do not want to give up their actual cell volume. Over a period of weeks, maybe months of "proper dieting", each of your fat cells may have actually lost a good percentage of the actual fat contained in those cells. But the fat cells themselves, stubborn little guys, replace that lost fat with water to retain their size. That is, instead of shrinking to match the reduced amount of fat in the cell, they stay the same size! Result - you weigh the same, look the same, maybe even gained some scale weight, even though you have actually lost some serious fat."

This is what we have been telling folks. You lose inches but not pounds because your body plumps the fat cells. I tell them it is a complicated biochemical process that your body replaces the fat molecules with water and fluids until you exceed your bodies predetermined fluid level. Then your body will release a chemical that releases all this stored water and you get a sudden overnight loss of several pounds. Then the cycle starts over again with inches gone and the scales lag behind.

The good news is that this water replacement is temporary. It's a defensive measure to keep your body from changing too rapidly. It allows the fat cell to counter the rapid change in cell composition, allowing for a slow, gradual reduction in cell size. The problem is, most people are frustrated with their apparent lack of success, assume they have lost nothing, and stop dieting. However, if you give those fat cells some time, like 4-6 months, and ignore the scale weight fluctuations, your real weight/shape will slowly begin to show.

So just take a deep breath and keep eating the way you know you should. When your fat cells finally get the picture that they don't need to wait to be fat agin - cause it ain't coming back! - they will release that water and you will get a nice overnight whoosh!

i was also wondering if you checked on the dry ranch dressing... are all the ingredients OK?

also, have you been very good a bout the water?

Don't worry, you'll get there... I've made MANY goals I didn't make... but when I did make them it was worth the wait!!! In fact I don't think I'll make my 'goal' of reaching goal weight by my bday (June 21)... but at least I look and feel a LOT better this year than last! lol...
                Good luck!!!!

Re: HELP!! Getting frustrated, no weight or inches lost

From my previous round with Atkins, I can sympathize. What I've decided to focus on this time is NOT the weight or inches (although those WILL HAPPEN) is how much better I feel knowing that I'm doing something GOOD FOR MYSELF. I tend to let other people dictate when I eat and how I eat. NO MORE!
                  June Goals
                  1. Continue with water
                  2. Use bike more (3x per week would be nice).
                  3. Continue with videos.
                  4. Go to the YMCA for water classes.
                  5. Build stamina for more walking.

                  Goals for May:
                  1. Water every day - at least 100 oz.
                  2. Walk through Wal Mart instead of ride.
                  3. Post every day.
                  4. Get the exercise bike out of basement and use it!
                  5. Re-read DANDR! It's been too long.

                    you wanna hear something weird?
i must have "jinxed" it last night.... it finally moved! to the 20 pound mark!
I've been stuck about the same weight for 2 weeks!
this has been my lingest stall, and today, on goal day, it finally jumped!

                    no complaints over here!!

Woo Hoo, knew it would happen!!!
This is totally unrelated, BUT.... every time my TOM is late I'll flip out, buy a pregnancy test and then the next day it'll come... hehe... it never fails eh?
Anyway, back to the point... Good job, and like Omnimamma said... just do what's good for you and your body WILL follow!
