  • Portable foods...

I'm trying to save money by staying at work during my lunch hour and bringing my food from home. It's only a 20 minute drive home, and we do have a cafeteria here, but they're kinda pricey (and never really Atkins-friendly).

    Here's the dilemma..
We have no refrigerator at work. So I can't bring anything that needs to be refrigerated (most of my food needs it) to work for lunch.

If I HAVE to, I'll continue to drive home.. I could go to the McD's next door, but even throwing away the bun or ordering salads, it's NOT the healthiest place in the world to eat 5 days a week. I don't do bars or shakes, so that's out of the question as well.

Any suggestions for induction-friendly foods that are portable and DON'T need refrigeration?

    Re: Portable foods...

induction-friendly foods that are portable and DON'T need refrigeration (for reasonable periods of time) include bacon, pork skins, celery, cheeses, mayo, pickles, olives, jerky, boullion, flavorings & splenda for water, decaf tea & coffee

On the otherhand, try getting a small cooler & use a reuseable ice pak. I've found rotating those paks daily in & out of the freezer at home & a cooler is extremely useful, especially on road trips in the car for cold drinks as well as storing perishables.

    Hope this helps!

Ditto what Boonie said. Get a cooler, and a couple of ice packs. Easy peasy. Who needs a fridge??

Maybe you could request a fridge at work? Maybe do a survey and find out how many other employees would be interested in having a fridge. Or maybe the Canteen have a fridge and you could borrow some space in theirs for the morning?

I have a small lunch box cooler I got for like 6 bucks and two ice packs for probably another 4-5 dollars. Works great. The ice packs last easily till lunch. Just remember to put them in the freezer every night!... ok thats a given, but I've forgot before :-/

you can make a nice chicken salad and it will stay out of the fridge without any problems (at least until lunch!). Beside dairy products, I think almost everything can keep itself for 5 hours...
And the idea suggested of a little cooler is very good!!
