  • My Tale Of The Scale And Why Water Works

    Hi All -

Well, I went out with my girlfriends Saturday night to celebrate my birthday. I hadn't seen them in quite a few months and I hadn't been out in forever as I'm a mom with three kids, a good hubbie, soccer practice, ballet lessons, etc. and I never seem to have time to go out and have some fun.

In short, I ran into a lot of friends I'd went to school with and I ended up having a couple of Michelob Ultras and dancing my pants off .

A day or so later I got on the scales and I had gained 5 lbs! Yes, 5 lbs!!! It was quite discouraging to say the least and I was ready to cry .

I was so ready to give up but I knew that I'd let those beastly scales get the best of me and I wasn't going to give them the satisfaction so I threw them in the closet and decided to give em a good fight!

Prior to this incident I had went a day without drinking all my water so I decided that I'd make every effort to drink all my water no matter what, no excuses. So after three days of drinking a ton of water and not cheating I've lost the 5 lbs!

So what I've learned is that I can't be a slave to the scales as they aren't the indicator of my success. I also learned that one of the most important things to do on Atkins is drink your water - and then some.

I've joined the scale challenge starting on Oct. 8th and I can't wait! I hope anyone else that is hopping on those darn evil little things every time they go in the bathroom will do the same. It's a challenge but it's so worth it to recondition yourself. The scales can quickly become an excuse for you to give up on Atkins and give up on yourself.

There will be a time when you can use the scales for good, if you're hopping on them every ten minutes....that time isn't right now. So all you Induction or Extended Induction Atkineers come join the challenge and beat the scale addiction with me... I challenge you!

Re: My Tale Of The Scale And Why Water Works

I can say how true this is. I had lost 15 lbs during my induction. Next thing I know, for no reason I went back up 2. I weighed every day 5 times a day. By the 6th day, still 2 lbs heavier than my low weight I got so discouraged that I almost quit. I got on here though and found my strength again and drank my water (tons of it) and got rid of those cravings and thoughts of giving in and exercised my heart out and whatd'ya know? dropped 6 lbs for some reason almost overnight! Had I not weighed myself that week I would have never known I went up 2 and stayed there that long. i would have just weighed at the end of the week or longer and seen the 6 lb drop (4 since I also wouldnt have known the 2 lb gain) and would have been happy at 4 lbs gone. Never having tortured myself like that. I have also joined the no weight challenge. I hope we can get more on board!!!! LETS QUIT LETTING THE SCALES DICTATE HOW WE FEEL! We are succeeding!

The beginning of your story is my current story. I'm on week three. Lost 11, gained back 2. I DO drinks lots of water & exercise twice a day. I'm a scale slave, always will be. No cravings for two weeks, no cheats. Hoping tomorrow's weigh-in will be down. Not discouraged, read the book, it happens, will keep on going.

It will happen. Like me, just stayed stuck forever it seemed, then one day, down several! Im sure it will be that way for you too.

Have you seen the 'no weigh' challenge starting today for 2 weeks?
A lot of us have joined it to help wean us off too frequent scale weigh-ins!
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

Check out our Low Carb Recipes website and add to it!!

              Kittymomma-
I am too. It's so much a part of my routine, especially when I'm trying to lose weight! I won't change- the 'no weigh' challange would make me crazy!!
I don't let the numbers affect though.

I'm a scale-a-holic but find that the flucuations don't bother me as much as weighing say once a week and seeing no change....maybe I feel like if it's going up and down my body is doing something...I don't know, I know that when I was on the plan before I weighed every 4-5 days, and if it didn't move I got soooo discouraged...now I weigh all the time and it moves up and down and it doesn't bother me as much especially because the average is creeping lower all the time...

Re: My Tale Of The Scale And Why Water Works

I too am a slave to the scale! I sometimes step on the scale with wet hair and a towel on my head, at that point if I'm only up a pound, I know that I am probably down at least 5 pounds (I have very long hair that holds water like a sponge). I've also found that if I can stand with one foot sort of pigeon toed at the center of my scale with the other one more to the right of center I'm a little lighter. So, when I'm just standing around in public I will do that "stance" so I look a little thinner. (ha ha) It is a very sick ritual, but I don't get too upset at the scale and as long as my jeans are baggy I'm happy. It's good to know that others are slaves to the scale!
