  • 4th week of extended induction

Me and my wife have been on atkins for 3 weeks and have started our 4th week of induction. Is there anything wrong with staying on it this long, or longer?
I was reading about owl, but the next rung doesn't add anything I would want, or like to eat, so I am fine with the induction so far.

    Any advice?

hey Executech, conrats on making it through 3 weeks already.

Rung 1 is more veggies. More veggies is really important because of the FIBER. Are there no vegetables you like? What about eating more in the form of tomato sauces--like making a nice vegetable and meat lasagne with tomato sauce??

I could eat more I guess, I have been eating some. I was just wondering if staying on induction longer would hurt or cause any issues?

I don't think it would hurt anything, or cause issues. I just find it very restrictive. Also with summer time coming up, if you've moved up through the rungs at least to the berry rung, you can enjoy berries and melons this spring and summer.

I'm a big advocate of adding foods back in and having variety while still losing weight. But, there are others who do stay on induction. They run into issues though, when they get to goal and haven't added foods back in. When they finally do it, they haven't had the opportunity to learn what foods cause problems and the like.

I believe Dr. Atkins says in DANDR that he has no problem with people staying on induction up to six months for those that really have an exreme amount of weight loss. At my weight I stayed on for 4 months and was happy. I'd say as long as you are ensuring you are getting all proper vitamins and minerals you are good for a while longer yet if that is what you want, but please please make sure you don't wait too long to go into OWL, you really need to give yourself time in OWL and pre-maintenance before you get too close to goal so you can really figure out how to maintain.

Thanks, that's great to know. We are going to Jamaica in mid May, so i am trying to get into better shape before we go. I think we will start owl in 2 weeks to adjust for some extra eating while on vacation. Then when we get back, will probably start back at induction for 2 weeks and then convert to owl and all the final steps.

Good thinking, to move to OWL before your vacation. And... if you don't go overboard with the carbs while on holiday, you could just carry on from whatever rung you get to.
I'm a believer in "returning to induction" only when absolutely necessary. If you do it too often it can mess up your metabolism a bit.

I would probably worry more about sugar than carbs while on this trip. If you count the fruit and an occasional dessert. I think I will be good, but you never know until you get there. I have found that the desserts at resorts are not that good and I usually don't eat them.
We may have italion food one night, and that should be the only high carb day I will have.
