  • Not the Results I Expected

So I've been on Atkins for four weeks now. My total loss has been 4.2 lbs. It doesn't seem like much in one entire month. I'm a little bummed out about it but just say to myself, "Hey it's still four lbs, the diet is easy to stick to, and you're four lbs lighter". I still wish I was one of those 10 or 20 lb in a month losers.

I still have almost 36.8 lbs to lose...bummer.

Re: Not the Results I Expected

During induction your'e supposed to lose 5-10% of the total weight you want to lose. If you want to lose 41 pounds, 4.2 pounds is actually a little bit more than 10%. That's awesome progress, and I'd say you're right on track.

If you're comparing yourself to those who lost more, don't. Everyone else is different, and those who usually lose more on induction have more to lose TOTAL!

Ditto what she said. Some people just take a little longer at various spots, but kick it up at other times... you know?

I've been on it four weeks though, not just the intial two of induction. That's an average of 1 lbs a week. That's nothing! I mean I'm sticking to it because it's four lbs lighter than I was when I started but I think this has been my least successful diet so far!

Re: Not the Results I Expected

Hi snuggles! Don't panic! Your body composition may be changing. Sometimes our success isn't measured in pounds lost but rather, whether you feel and look a bit better. Are your clothes fitting any looser? Is your energy level up? These are all success signs. Also remember, four pounds of fat lost is alot!!! Ten pounds of fat is enough to fill an entire one gallon milk jug, so your results are nothing to sneeze at. Four pounds is almost half that so it's safe to assume that you've lost about a half-gallon jug of yucky fat off your bod...That's FANTASTIC!!!!!!

What can happen sometimes is that muscle gain will hide your actual fat loss. If a person loses say... six pounds of fat, then gains four pounds of lean muscle, the scale will only show a two pound loss. But the results are obvious in the mirror..smaller waist, better curves ,and so on. You may be putting on a bit of muscle while you burn fat. That's a good thing. Keep going!

If you're really concerned then check some of what you're eating to be sure there are no hidden sugars, aspartame or other wieght loss stallers sneaking in ( 'cause they ARE sneaky little boogers!!!! ). Also be proud of your loss! Are you exercising? If not this is a great way to speed up your results. Remember too, like julirama posted...some of these 20 lbs in a month losers, have way over 100lbs to lose total. In the scheme of what you have to lose, you're doing great!!! If you only lose 4 pounds of fat a month, in less than a year, you'll be to your goal. So don't give up!!!!

          Peace to all

Ditto everyone else and I don't mean to be mean, and yet it might have a lot to do with this thread of yours below. One little taste of sugar or one big binge, either way, it can take many days for your body to get back into ketosis.

ummm.. I would kill to lose 4 pounds right about now. It's not nothing. It all depends what you lost during induction, whether you're more resistant than others, or whether your body's just resetting itself to lose more, or whether you're accidentally eating a frankenfood... there are a lot of different reasons... But 4 pounds is better than nothing!

                Hi Snuggles,
You and I are neighbors, I am in Sonoma. I am a slow loser. This is my second time around and it is coming off much slower this time. I was depressed about it, but I decided to just go with the flow. It IS coming off, albeit in its own sweet time. I enjoy this lifestyle, I feel good, and I am NOT gaining weight. Hang in there. Everyone is different.

Hey Snuggles! I know exactly how you feel. I have over 100 lbs to lose and after 4 weeks and 1 day I have only lost a little over 9 lbs. I've been really strict too. I think it's great that you are going to stick with it. I get really bummed sometimes but I am going to keep going. Be strong! And keep us updated with your progress.

                  Good luck!

Re: Not the Results I Expected

It does take awhile but 4 lbs or 9lbs is still weight that you didn't put ON but took OFF. We didn't get fat in 4 weeks, so we can't expect to lose it in 4 weeks. Although, I too have to remind myself of that because I'd like to wake up and be 5 lbs thinner everyday. I look at it as the TOTAL package of not only losing weight, but changing your WOL to being more healthy and food conscience. Good luck and hang in there!!!

Hey Snuggles... hang in there. We're in the same boat it seems... I've been on induction for 4 weeks and my first weigh in is Sunday. I have to say I'm more than a little nervous about that first weigh in. I'm going to take heart with what Julirama said that a 5-10% of total loss in the first week is progress!

Also, many people have a "pause" in their weight loss between weeks 3-6 while the body adjusts to the changes. I experienced it myself. So, you get your initial loss, and then nothing, and then whoosh it starts coming off again. Be patient.

Snuggles, can you give us a typical meal plan? Are you staying away from salty and sugary (is that a word?) food? I had some ham a few weeks back and gained. I realized that ham is very salty, I stopped eating it and started losing again.

                            Thanks!
