I am in third week of Induction; about to go on to OWL. I noticed that some frozen vegs such as French Cut Beans and Broccolli have 2gr of sugar for 1 cup. Is this ok to eat? Carbs are about 5g for 1 cup. But I am concerned about the sugar.

Re: Frozen Vegs O.K.?
Hey, Buddyjay...
Read the ingredients. It dosn't have sugar added, does it?
I have a can of Del Monte French Style Green Beans in front of me. It lists each serving as 1/2 cup and shows that each serving has 4g of Carbs and 2g of sugar. However, the only ingredients are green beans, water, and salt for flavor. I think that the sugar is naturally occuring in the actual vegetable... not added. So you just count the carbs.
Same with my frozen cauliflower. It lists each serving size as 4 pieces and shows each serving as having 3g Carbs and 1g sugar. But in the ingredients, there is no sugar added. Once again, it is the naturally occuring sugar. Just make sure to measure your servings and count the carbs.
That's my theory, anyway... Anyone else?

Re: Frozen Vegs O.K.?
Yep, veggies have some natural sugars and those are most of the time are what's listed in the nutritional info as sugar and carbs. What you ALWAYS look for is sugar or high fructose corn syrup, modified food starch and the like in the INGREDIENTS list. That generally doesn't happen for veggies, but we can't always be certain. Unfortunately.
The reason for the order of the "rungs" of OWL is because of the naturally occuring sugars in food. We add more veggies in first because they aren't high in natural sugars. Then we add dairy which has a naturally occurring sugar in the form of lactose. Then we add nuts which have some naturally occurring sugars and other carbohydrates, also they can be trigger type foods for some people. Next comes berries which are rather low on the glycemic index but still higher than veggies, dairy or nuts and on on up the rungs we go, getting higher and higher in the impact on our blood sugar.
We can have the naturally occurring sugars in foods, but you don't want it added in the list of ingredients.~Joy

Re: Frozen Vegs O.K.?
Just be sure to add foods gradually to make sure they don't trigger cravings or stall your progress. Some nuts are fine for me, but others seem to stall my progress. And berries are fine for me, but canteloupe seems to send me right out of ketosis. Everyone is different with things their bodies can tollerate. If you add them gradually you will be able to pinpoint specific items that don't work for you. But the carb/sugar counts are naturally occuring sugars unless the ingredients state otherwise.
