  • Starting extended induction

Well I am starting extended induction today..I did lose 7lbs on induction but I messed up the first 5 days...I was counting total carbs and not net carbs, so I decided that I would do another roud of induction...Do you all do anythig different? I don't have alot of weight to lose..

So you were actually eating less than 20 carbs per day? That isn't so bad. I don't know why you would have to extend your induction, unless you just want to.

I wouldn't suggest redoing induction, go ahead and move into OWL since you don't have a lot to lose.

WEll, yeah I do just want to....I love Atkins, My boby got so use to starving all the time(fad diets) and In the beginning of atkins I felt like I was gonna gain weight by eating so much...Before atkins I could have probably starved for a week straight and not lose 1 pound...I really messed my metabolism up..I just wanna make sure it is up and working again!LOL....

Firstly - congratulations on losing those 7 pounds With the number of pounds you wsnt to lose that is a great result.

          Then to answer your question:
No - extended induction is just the same as the first 14 days - up to 20 net carbs (most from your vegetables) eating only from the allowed list, drinking your water and exercising.

If the only reason for extending your induction is because you have been eating less than the maximum 20 net carbs (as you were counting total carbs instead) I would suggest moving to OWL and adding 5 net carbs of your vegetables to whatever figure you calculate you were doing on induction.

So if you were eating 20 total carbs try to work out what the net carbs from those would have been and add 5 net carbs to that number. So if after writing down a few days menus you see you were eating 10 net carbs on induction, aim at having 15 net carbs on the first OWL rung.

If you dont then feel ready to introduce dairy rung foods you can stay on the vegetable rung and add more 5 net carbsworths if you like till you are ready to move on.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

            Re: Starting extended induction

I'd say move to OWL too. Don't be afraid of OWL... you still get to lose and many people lose more/faster, particularly on rung 1. You can stay there for quite a while if you like.

Congrats on your success so far!

              Re: Starting extended induction

Is there a typical weight loss to go when you should move to OWL? I too am on extended induction basically because I am still losing weight and not craving food. However, I have about 50 pounds that I would like to lose still and was wondering when would be a good time to go to OWL.

              Thanks!

                Re: Starting extended induction

Really it partly depends on your own feelings about eating the restricted induction choices, cnbweb. If you get to the stage where you are starting to feel deprived then move straight to OWL, no messing, and start adding the variety to keep you interested and motivated

Dr Atkins does tell us to lose the last 5-10 pounds verrrry slooooowly on the third Atkins phase (premaintenance) so you do need to give yourself ample time to conduct the great OWL scientific experiment before that.

On OWL you will be discovering how adding more carbs AND different foods affect you, so you need to be able to take your time and evaluate what happens to your body in order to discover your CCLL AND any trigger foods.

The main way to find your CCLL is to see how your weightloss alters while adding the OWL rung foods, so if you dont have a lot to lose it can be hard to know that as if you are very close to goal weight you are likely to be experiencing the slowdown most people have when near their target so may find it hard to recognise a slowdown in an already small loss rate.

Many of our members have found that by moving to OWL when still in the position of losing a few pounds a week they are more easily able to spot a slowdown and learn what foods they can tolerate while still losing weight at a fair lick!!
