• Tinkerbelle, You are doing great so far. 6lbs lost in 5 days is amazing, especially when you consider the weight you have to lose. It is a realy good percentage.
I would be careful though, of the scales. I did exactly the same, and in the first week was keen to see, every day, if I had lost any more. It does come off quickly at first but will slow down. I was becoming a scale slave, and, if it didn't move, I would get disappointed. Pick one day specifically and make it your WI day.
As for the ketosticks, I don't put much faith in them. I have used them before, but, again, if it didn't show purple, I would lose heart. There are plenty of people on here who will tell you that they have been in ketosis, but had no show, or very little, on the sticks. They don't work for everyone, and as some people say, you are either in ketosis or not. You can't be just a little bit in.
I'm not sure about the Crystal Light, as we don't have it in the UK, but do try to get use to drinking pure water. Honestly, you'll get to enjoy it and be thirsty for it eventually.

Anyway, good luck to you and keep it up. You'll be there by the summer.

• newbie! looking for mentor - also, problem taking vitamins

Hi everyone!! I just found this messageboard and am so excited to see how helpful and kind everyone on the board is!!

I've done atkins 2 other times and had great success but always ended up falling off track after about 3 months. I think the main problem was finding a greater variety of foods to eat! (I can be a really picky eater sometimes!)

I'm finally ready to do atkins again -- third time's a charm! I am ready to stick to it this time!

And onto the silly vitamin question.. It's almost impossible for me to swallow large pills which most multi-vitamins seem to be. Does anyone know of any smaller sized multivitamins? I currently have a generic brand that's the size of a pea which is great but I know that the multivitamins i need to be taking are HUGE! Help!!

I'd also love to have a mentor if anyone is willing! You can contact me on this board through PM or email.

I'll eventually get a signature up of my stats but for now:

• Thanks David! I am giving up the CL today! I am going to drink nothing but water. Hopefully I will see some good results from it because I was drinking like 6 qts of the stuff. :yikes Your stats are GREAT, by the way!

Hey Cat, I am new athis too. I tried Atkins before in the past also. I didn't do so good because I didn't really understand it. I have since read the book and with the help of this board, I am going to stick too it! You will too! Good luck!

Started Atkins 01-06-05. Lost 10 pounds. Great, right? However; the scale has not moved in 7 days now. What am I doing wrong??? I have not cheated, I eat eggs w/pepperoni and chz every morning. At lunch or dinner, I have either hot dogs, a piece of london broil, or a hamburger or another egg & pepperoni. Nothing else all day. No caffeine, no added salt. I used to love those flavored waters and don't even drink those anymore due to the art sweet guideines. I get at least 50-60 oz/water daily. Also, limited the cheese I eat. I do Tae-Bo and try to walk almost Every Day. What am I doing wrong???
Can someone help out? I'd be very grateful.

Hello

A friend of mine told me about his success on the Atkin's diet, so I took a look for stuff about it on the internet, and here I came! :yes
I've struggled with my weight ever since I can remember, and it's time to do something about it. I'm about thirty pounds overweight, so I'm hoping to shed that and feel good about myself, and then stay at that weight. This forum looks great for encouragment and support! I look forward to it!

Hi and Welcome to ha

First, Congrats on your weightloss! That is a great accomplishment!

Second, your menu needs a little tweaking. Cheese and pepperoni, as well as hot dogs, have a ton of sodium in it, and that's where your added salt is coming from. Thus, leading to your water retention and no weight loss.

Last, 50-60oz of water a day isn't enough. Your minimum should be 64oz. In order to experience optimum performance, you should be drinking 64oz + 8oz for every 25lbs you have to lose. Also, if you decide to have foods containing alot of sodium (such as cheese, pepperoni and hot dogs) you should increase your water intake a little to flush out the sodium.

I've found that the most effective way to lose weight is to stick to whole, unprocessed foods. I only eat cheese on occassion, since it tends to stall me, and I have processed meats maybe once every 3 months.

Hope this helps and happy low-carbing!

Hello Jenbert1 :wave
I see Chynna has mentioned upping your water and watching out for sodium in your pepperoni/hot dogs and I thought I would just add this thought.
You finished your list of food eaten by saying 'Nothing else all day' - but no mention of vegetables at all :yikes
On induction you should be having 3 cups of veggies each day as well as your meat/cheese/eggs.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

• :wave Hi there, I'm a Newbie. Have read the book, Started Atkins 2 years ago with my husband, who lost 25 lbs and has kept it off. I didn't even lose a pound. I wasn't doing something right. Fast forward to present.. Jan 1st I started "Atkins" and still haven't lost a pound. I haven't had a cookie, cake, or donut, NO CARBS except broccoli and romaine lettuce. I have been so "good" so why not any weight loss? After reading the different boards and posts today, I'm definitely eating too many calories. cheese for one, the right kinds, just not in those volumes. I'm really interested in some experienced guidance. I love the sense of humors. What's the Bootcamp all about, boy that sounds challenging. I'm game. I'm committed!!!

• Desperately seeking a mentor!

Will someone be my mentor and have a daily check in with me. Last year I lost 35 lbs, and have another 10 lbs to go. I'm really struggling at the moment and need some support desperately. Just tell me what to do and I'll do it. But it's getting hard on my own without outside support.
Will someone mentor me?

• I am back on Atkins after an 8 month out of control spiral through the summer and holidays. I gained 30lbs of the 60lbs I lost, and I feel absolute horrible. I am on day 5 of induction and trying to stick to it .

I found a great book called Low Carb 1-2-3 by Rozanne Gold. There are 225 simply great 3-ingredient recipes that are awesome. I think I must get variety to sustain. :wave

You can manage without scales for you and your food if you havent got them.
Though lots of us do hop on the scales often you dont have to - and perhaps you can get a start weight at your doctors or a health club or gym?
Make sure you measure yourself with a tape (or piece of string which you can use a ruler to measure) before you start and use that as your way of checking your progress.
Some people just go on how their clothes fit them - so you could make a note of your current size as your start size and decide your goal size.

As to food scales - many of us over in Europe have problems with measuring dry foods in cups rather than in weight so if you have measuring cups then most of the job is done for you in DANDR and you dont have to weigh the foods just use your cups.
Also most packs of food have their weight printed on them so it becomes fairly easy to guess the weight of any meats you eat by knowing how much of the packet you have had.

And as Chynna suggested - if you want more personal help sign up on the Buddy list to be allocated a mentor to help encourage and support you.

I wont wish you 'good luck' as if you follow the rules as laid out in DANDR 2002 I know you cant help but succeed!!
